Design and Build Quality

The Cycrown Cycknight is a folding e-bike that offers convenience and functionality for riders looking for a portable electric transportation option. Let’s delve into its design and build quality.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: design and build quality

Starting with the folding mechanism, the Cycknight features an unlatch system that allows for easy folding and unfolding. However, I mentioned that it can be somewhat challenging to unfold, which suggests that it may require some effort and practice to become accustomed to the process.

In terms of aesthetics, the Cycknight resembles other e-bikes on the market with its fat tires, full suspension, and overall sleek appearance. The paint job is commended for its quality, giving the e-bike an appealing and fancy look. The inclusion of fat tires and full suspension indicates that the Cycknight is designed to handle various terrains and provide a comfortable riding experience.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: front full suspension

While I mention the absence of fenders and a rear rack, it’s important to note that these accessories are not included by default. However, the bike does have mounting holes on the rear and front, allowing riders to install fenders and a rear rack if desired. This provides customization options and the ability to adapt the bike to specific preferences or needs.

One notable positive aspect mentioned is the comfortable seat. Having a well-designed and comfortable seat is crucial for longer rides, as it ensures a more enjoyable and less fatiguing experience for the rider.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: frame and battery

In terms of build quality, I mentioned a creaking sound. Although it’s unclear from the provided context what specifically causes the creaking, it could be a result of a loose or faulty component. Ideally, an e-bike should have a sturdy and reliable build quality, minimizing such issues. It’s important to note that without further information, it’s difficult to determine if the creaking is a common occurrence or an isolated incident.

The Cycrown Cycknight is equipped with a Shimano Tourney 1×7 drivetrain, providing a reliable and efficient gear-shifting system for riders. The inclusion of a 1×7 drivetrain implies that there is a single chainring at the front and a seven-speed cassette at the rear, allowing for a decent range of gear options.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: Shimano Tourney 1x7 drivetrain

The e-bike features 160-millimeter rotors on both the front and rear wheels. These rotors, combined with the mechanical disc brakes, offer solid stopping power and reliable braking performance. Although the specific brand of the disc brakes is not mentioned, it’s worth noting that mechanical disc brakes are generally known for their durability and ease of maintenance.

Moving on to the suspension, the Cycknight incorporates a fork that can be unlocked and locked, providing some level of adjustability. However, it is mentioned that the front suspension feels stiff. Adjusting the tire pressure is suggested as a means to increase comfort during the ride. The rear suspension, on the other hand, is described as easy to adjust by hand and seems to offer a decent amount of suspension travel.

Cycrown Cycknight Review fat tires and full suspension

The comfort aspect of the Cycknight is highlighted, particularly the seat. The seat is described as soft and comfortable, with a nice spring mechanism. However, there is a concern about the durability of the seat due to the thin padding of the imitation leather material.

In terms of lighting, the e-bike comes with a front headlight for increased visibility during rides. Additionally, there is a mention of a battery-powered taillight that can be installed on the bike, although it was not present during the review. This indicates that the Cycknight offers some lighting options for enhanced safety, especially for nighttime riding.

Cycrown Cycknight Review seat is described as soft and comfortable

One interesting feature worth noting is the foldable pedals. This design element adds convenience and ease of storage, allowing the pedals to be folded when not in use, potentially saving space in tight storage areas.

Lastly, it is highlighted that the Cycknight’s price is surprisingly affordable at $900. Considering the mentioned features, such as the fat tires, full suspension, and appealing design, the Cycknight offers good value for its price point.

Driving and Speed Test

The Cycrown Cycknight is classified as a Class 2 e-bike, which explains its 500-watt motor power. During a test ride, I provide feedback on different pedal assist levels and their corresponding speeds.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: frame and battery

Starting with zero pedal assist, I mentioned that the e-bike performs reasonably well, reaching a speed of around 5 to 6 miles per hour. However, I plan to use a GPS device later to accurately measure the speed.

Moving to pedal assist level one, I note that the torque provided by the 500-watt motor is impressive. I mention that it requires some force on the cranks but still allows for relatively easy pedaling. At this level, I are able to achieve a speed of approximately 9 miles per hour.

Cycrown Cycknight Review - driving and ride

Switching to pedal assist level two, I commented that I can hear the battery rattling inside the frame. I suggest that this e-bike might not be suitable for intense off-road riding. However, I propose the idea of adding gaskets or padding to mitigate the rattling issue.

Advancing to pedal assist level three, I report a speed of 14 miles per hour, and at pedal assist level four, I reach a speed of 17 miles per hour. I anticipate that at pedal assist level five, the e-bike will likely surpass 20 miles per hour, but I feel it’s getting a bit too fast for their current environment.

Cycrown Cycknight Review

In throttle-only mode, I achieve speeds of around 7 to 8 miles per hour. I then move on to pedal assist level one, where the throttle and pedaling combination allows them to reach a speed of approximately 13 to 14 miles per hour. As I progress to pedal assist level four, the throttle-only speed peaks at 17 miles per hour. Finally, at pedal assist level five, I reached a top speed of 20 miles per hour using the throttle alone.

To verify the accuracy of the e-bike’s speedometer, I employ a GPS app, which confirms the maximum speed of 20 miles per hour. This result validates the e-bike’s classification as a Class 2 e-bike, adhering to the legal speed limits for this category.

Cycrown Cycknight Review screen display features

I then switched to pedaling and found that pedal assist level two offers the most comfortable riding experience. However, when using pedal assist levels three, four, and five, I feel that I run out of suitable gears, with their legs spinning too fast, making it more efficient to rely on the throttle in these instances. I also note that the maximum speed achievable with the e-bike is around 22 miles per hour, which can be reached with the throttle alone.

I recommend the Cycrown Cycknight e-bike for individuals looking to use it for commuting purposes such as going to school, running errands at places like Walmart or the gas station, or simply making quick trips to stores like Dollar General to grab essentials. I suggest that additional accessories like a rear rack and fenders can be easily installed, making it more convenient for carrying items or riding in different weather conditions.

Cycrown Cycknight Review - driving and ride

While I do not recommend using the e-bike for intense off-road riding, I mention that it can handle gravel roads and less challenging terrains. It is highlighted that the e-bike’s top speed is adequate for most commuting needs, and its overall appearance is visually appealing. The comfort level is considered satisfactory, but customization options are available for those who want to fine-tune their riding experience by replacing the handlebars or making other modifications.

I also note that the e-bike is suitable for heavy riders with a maximum load capacity of 350 pounds. Although this weight limit may be lower compared to some other e-bike brands that claim capacities of up to 500 pounds, it is still deemed reasonable.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: front full suspension

So, the Cycrown Cycknight e-bike is recommended for commuting purposes, with its affordable price point and the possibility of adding accessories to enhance its functionality. While it may not excel in extreme off-road riding or offer the highest weight capacity, it provides a reliable and stylish option for everyday urban and suburban transportation needs.

Battery and Range

The Cycrown Cycknight e-bike comes equipped with a 48-volt, 12.5-amp battery. It is noted that the claimed range of 48 miles is achievable with minimal battery assistance, likely relying more on pedaling. During one of the user’s test rides, which covered approximately 16 miles and included a mix of hills, bridge crossings, and varied pedaling modes, the average speed ranged from 12 to 15 miles per hour.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: frame and battery

In terms of charging time, the battery typically takes around 3 to 4 hours to fully charge. Once charged, the e-bike offers different ranges depending on the mode of operation. In electric mode, the range can vary between 28 to 37 miles, while in pedal assist mode, the range extends from 37 to 48 miles.

These observations suggest that the e-bike’s range can vary depending on factors such as terrain, assistance level, and user input. It is important to consider these factors when planning longer rides and ensuring that the battery has sufficient charge for the intended distance.

Conclusions

So, the Cycrown Cycknight fat e-bike offers a compelling package at a price of $900. With its sturdy frame, sleek design, and solid build quality, it presents an attractive option for e-bike enthusiasts.

Cycrown Cycknight Review: size and weight

The full suspension system provides a relatively comfortable ride by absorbing bumps and uneven surfaces. The components, such as the drivetrain and disc brakes, deliver reliable performance on the road.

The Cycrown Cycknight e-bike offers an affordable and capable option for commuters and casual riders. If you’re looking for a fat e-bike that combines affordability and performance, the Cycknight is definitely worth considering. Get out there, hit the road, and enjoy the ride!

The unboxing experience of the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard was an absolute delight. Upon opening the package, I was greeted with a carefully packaged set of tools in a neat foam pack. The tools included all the necessary wrenches, Allen keys, and a screwdriver required for assembly.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Unboxing and Assembling

Accompanying the tools was a beautifully laid out manual, providing clear instructions for the assembly process. Additionally, there was a user guide for the accompanying VanPowers app, which allows users to control various settings such as speed and unit preferences.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Unboxing and Assembling

The assembly itself was a breeze. It mainly involved attaching the fender at the front and mounting the tire, ensuring a secure fit. Once the physical assembly was complete, I made sure to charge the battery fully before taking it out for a spin.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Unboxing and Assembling

Speaking of the battery, the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard came with two keys, which serve as copies. These keys are used to unlock the brake and the battery compartment. With a simple turn of the key, the battery easily popped out, allowing for convenient charging. This feature provides added security as well, as you can choose to keep the bike downstairs in the garage while bringing the battery inside for charging.

The battery compartment was designed with user-friendliness in mind. When it’s time to reinsert the battery, it effortlessly slides back into place, and with a quick turn of the key, it securely locks in. This convenience ensures that you can quickly and easily charge the battery whenever needed.

So, I was impressed with the simplicity and efficiency of the unboxing experience and the assembly process of the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard. The well-packaged tools, comprehensive manual, and user-friendly battery system contributed to a hassle-free setup. With everything in place and the battery charged, I was excited to take the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard for a ride, confident in its quality and functionality.

Design and Build Quality

The VanPowers Urban Glide Standard boasts a design and build quality that sets it apart from its counterparts. While it may sacrifice some portability due to its increased size and weight compared to the Vanture, its sturdier frame and enhanced components more than make up for it.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: design and appearance

The bike’s frame is a standout feature, exhibiting a sleek and uniform design. With minimal welding points throughout, the frame achieves a clean and seamless aesthetic. This attention to detail not only adds to the bike’s visual appeal but also speaks to the craftsmanship and build quality of the Urban Glide Standard.

Let’s talk about the tires on the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard. They feature 27.5-inch wheels with a width of 2.2 inches, which I find to be a sweet spot when navigating concrete gaps, occasional potholes, and other urban obstacles. Combined with the bike’s suspension, these tires provide a comfortable and enjoyable ride. The combination of the tire size and suspension system helps absorb shocks and vibrations, ensuring a smooth experience even on rough terrain.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Budget-Friendly E-bike!

Moving on to the gear system, the Urban Glide Standard is equipped with Shimano gear derailleurs, specifically a Shimano seven-speed derailleur. This setup is particularly useful when tackling hilly terrains as it allows for easy gear shifting, ensuring efficient pedaling and control. Additionally, having the option to switch gears effortlessly is a valuable feature for riders who encounter various inclines during their rides.

The inclusion of a throttle is another notable aspect of the Urban Glide Standard. It provides the convenience of an extra boost when needed, allowing you to quickly accelerate and maintain a higher speed. The throttle can be especially handy when navigating uphill sections or when you want to have some fun and pick up the pace.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: suspension system helps absorb shocks and vibrations

The bike also comes with built-in lights for increased visibility and safety during nighttime rides. The lights can be easily turned on or off by pressing the plus button on the control panel. While they may not be extremely bright, they are sufficient for casual rides and ensure that other road users can see you. For riders who frequently ride at night or require brighter illumination, adding an additional light on the handlebars is recommended.

In terms of drawbacks, it’s worth noting that the Urban Glide Standard’s lights may not be suitable for extensive nighttime riding due to their limited brightness. However, for occasional rides as darkness sets in, they serve their purpose well. For added visibility and safety during night rides, it’s advisable to supplement the built-in lights with a brighter, additional light mounted on the handlebars.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: handlebars

Regarding the bike’s weight and luggage capacity, the Urban Glide Standard features a sturdy luggage rack at the back capable of holding approximately 25 kilograms (55-60 pounds). As for the bike itself, it weighs around 30 kilograms (66 pounds), which is relatively light for an e-bike of this caliber.

One notable aspect of the design is the low 380mm step-through height. This feature allows for easy mounting and dismounting of the bike, making it accessible and convenient for riders of various heights and abilities. Whether you’re wearing casual attire or need to quickly get on and off the bike, the low step-through height ensures a hassle-free experience.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Unboxing and Assembling

The overall build quality of the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard is commendable. The sturdier frame, along with the enhanced components, ensures durability and reliability. This bike is designed to withstand the rigors of daily use and provide a smooth and comfortable riding experience.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard: Power and Driving

The performance of the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard is worth highlighting, especially considering its powerful components. It is worth noting that the Urban Glide is available in three models: Standard, Pro, and Ultra. In this case, we will focus on the Standard version.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: ride and driving on road

The Urban Glide Standard is equipped with a 500W motor, which provides ample power for urban commuting and recreational riding. This motor delivers a smooth and natural riding experience, thanks to its high-quality construction and efficient design. The Bafang 500W motor stands out for its performance and reliability, offering a seamless and enjoyable ride.

One impressive feature of the Urban Glide Standard is the 95Nm torque sensor. This sensor measures the force exerted on the pedals and adjusts the motor assistance accordingly. With a high torque rating, the bike can deliver strong and responsive acceleration, allowing riders to conquer steep inclines and challenging terrains with ease.

The bike’s gearing system is also noteworthy. The Standard version of the Urban Glide utilizes a Microshift RD-M26L 9-speed rear derailleur. This derailleur, in combination with a 42T chain ring and a 170mm crankset, offers a wide range of gear options. The 9-speed setup allows riders to choose the appropriate gear for various riding conditions, ensuring optimal pedaling efficiency and control.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: ride screen speed

I had the opportunity to take the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard for a spin during our local community street fair, followed by a pleasant ride in the park with my friend Michael. Here are a few points I’d like to highlight about the bike.

First and foremost, the Urban Glide Standard features a lovely suspension system with 80 millimeters of travel and a 30 millimeter play. This setup ensures that any bumps or rough surfaces are absorbed, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. Whether you’re navigating uneven city streets or exploring off-road paths in the park, the suspension system proves to be effective in maintaining a pleasant riding experience.

Powering the Urban Glide Standard is a 500 watt motor located at the back of the bike. This motor provides ample power for acceleration and climbing hills, making the ride effortless and enjoyable. What I particularly like is the inclusion of a throttle, conveniently located on the handlebars. With the throttle, you can quickly give it the “beans” and experience a burst of speed whenever needed. Additionally, the bike offers five levels of power assist, controlled through the left-hand side controller. This allows you to adjust the level of motor assistance according to your preference and the terrain you’re traversing.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: ride and driving on road

The Urban Glide Standard also boasts a full-color display, which is both beautiful and easily readable. Even in glorious sunshine, like the one I experienced, the display provides clear information about your speed, battery level, and other essential metrics. Having this level of visibility ensures that you can keep track of your ride’s performance without any hassle.

The VanPowers Urban Glide Standard exhibits an impressive ability to reach and maintain a speed of 20mph. With its powerful motor and responsive throttle, the bike offers a swift and exhilarating ride, allowing you to cover distances efficiently. This capability makes it an excellent choice for commuting and exploring urban environments.

During my rides, I found the bike to provide a smooth and enjoyable experience, even on longer journeys, like we tested Vtuvia Reindeer. The combination of the suspension system and well-designed frame helps to absorb shocks and vibrations, minimizing discomfort and fatigue. This ensures that you can ride for extended periods without feeling the strain.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: ride and driving on road

When faced with steep slopes and challenging terrain, the Urban Glide Standard truly shines. Its robust motor and torque sensor enable the bike to tackle uphill climbs with ease. I was impressed by its performance on various inclines, as it provided sufficient power and assistance to conquer challenging routes without feeling overly exerted.

The inclusion of a front suspension on the Urban Glide Standard significantly enhances the overall riding experience. This feature plays a crucial role in absorbing impact and providing added comfort, particularly when encountering uneven surfaces or bumps. It helps to smoothen out the ride and improves handling, ensuring a stable and controlled feel even in less-than-ideal road conditions.

While the overall experience with the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard has been highly positive, I would like to address a minor concern regarding the brakes. In my opinion, the brakes on this bike may feel a bit weak. However, considering that the bike’s top speed is around 20 miles per hour, the braking performance is generally adequate for normal riding conditions. It’s important to note that the braking system is still functional and capable of safely bringing the bike to a stop.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: Budget-Friendly E-bike!

Despite this minor observation, I am genuinely satisfied with the Urban Glide Standard as a whole. The bike offers excellent value for its price point. It’s worth mentioning that the Urban Glide Standard is available in two different sizes, and in my case, I have the small size. However, I believe that a larger frame size, such as the large option, would better suit me. It’s essential to choose the frame size that best matches your body proportions for optimal comfort and control.

So, it’s worth noting that the Urban Glide Standard is part of a lineup that includes two other versions. These versions come with mid-drive motors and may have slight improvements in certain areas compared to the base model. However, as a budget-friendly option, the base model provides a solid riding experience with its rear hub motor.

Battery and Range

The VanPowers Urban Glide Standard comes equipped with a robust 690WH certified battery, featuring LG cells. This high-capacity battery allows for an impressive range of approximately 65 miles on a single charge. Whether you’re planning a long-distance ride or using the bike for daily commuting, the Urban Glide Standard offers sufficient battery capacity to cover significant distances without worrying about running out of power.

One convenient feature of the Urban Glide Standard is the ability to charge the battery while it is still inside the bike. This means you can easily recharge the battery without the need to remove it from its designated position. Alternatively, as I demonstrated earlier, you can also remove the battery and charge it separately.

Conclusions

So, the VanPowers Urban Glide Standard proves to be an exceptional value as a budget e-bike. With its powerful 500 watt motor located at the back, generous battery capacity 14.5 amp hour, and impressive range, this bike offers a compelling package for riders seeking a reliable and affordable electric bike.

VanPowers Urban Glide Standard Review: design and appearance

The standout feature of the Urban Glide Standard is its beautiful and easily readable full-color display, which remains highly visible even under bright sunlight. This ensures that riders can access vital information effortlessly during their rides, enhancing convenience and safety.

As a “big guy,” I am particularly impressed with the Urban Glide Standard’s performance, build quality, and overall value. The combination of a powerful motor, ample battery capacity, and an intuitive display contributes to a satisfying riding experience.

In summary, the Urban Glide Standard receives a resounding two thumbs up and is “big guy approved.” VanPowers has crafted a budget-friendly e-bike that offers great features, durability, and performance, making it an excellent choice for riders of various sizes and preferences.

Design and Build Quality

The HovAlpha showcases a unique design that catches the eye. Its frame is constructed from a 60-61 single-butted aluminum alloy, which ensures both strength and durability while keeping the bike relatively lightweight. The frame is engineered to offer stability and comfort, providing a smooth and enjoyable riding experience.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: design and appearance

Equipped with a Shimano Tourney derailleur and a Shimano thumb shifter, the HovAlpha offers reliable and precise gear shifting. Shimano components are renowned for their performance and dependability, ensuring a seamless transition between gears and enhancing the overall ride quality.

The bike features 180-millimeter disc rotors paired with Zoom hydraulic brakes. This combination delivers powerful and consistent braking performance, granting riders confidence and control over their stopping power. Whether on city streets or rugged terrains, the HovAlpha’s braking system offers reliable and safe braking capabilities.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: 180-millimeter disc rotors paired with Zoom hydraulic brakes

The HOVSCO HovAlpha is equipped with Zoom Forks on the front. While the performance of these forks may be uncertain, testing them out will provide a better understanding of their capabilities. Being a hardtail bike, riders have the option to release some air from the rear tire, creating a more cushioned and springy feel during rides.

One aspect that may require immediate attention is the seat. Based on feedback, the original seat may not provide the desired level of comfort. Swapping it out for a more comfortable seat is recommended to prevent discomfort during longer rides.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: front suspension fork

The HovAlpha is equipped with 26 by 4 Chaoyang Tires. While less familiar compared to other well-known tire brands, these tires are designed to provide excellent traction and stability across various surfaces. Their width helps distribute the bike and rider’s weight, enhancing stability and grip on different terrains.

The HovAlpha comes packed with several noteworthy features. Positioned on the left side, a push thumb throttle allows easy acceleration without the need for pedaling. The bike offers five levels of pedal assist, enabling riders to choose their preferred level of assistance during their journey.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: 26 by 4 Chaoyang Tires

Additionally, the HovAlpha boasts a front headlight and a rear tail light. These lights require separate activation from the bike, as they have their own battery source. Furthermore, the bike’s battery includes a handy LED light that serves as an emergency strobe light or a helpful tool in case of breakdowns on the roadside.

A standout feature of the HovAlpha is its torque sensor. This sensor measures the amount of force the I applies to the pedals and provides assistance proportional to that input. The result is a more natural and intuitive riding experience, with the bike responding to the rider’s effort levels.

Weighing 72.8 pounds with the battery included, the HovAlpha falls within the average range for e-bikes of its kind. It offers a maximum payload capacity of 450 pounds, accommodating riders of various sizes and allowing for additional gear or cargo.

Performance and Driving

Powered by a 750-watt motor, with a peak output of 1,032 watts, the HovAlpha delivers powerful performance. The torque sensor becomes the highlight of the bike, allowing riders to conquer hills and challenging terrain with ease. I express excitement and curiosity about the torque sensor’s impact on their ability to tackle inclines.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: 750-watt motor

With a sense of adventure, I decided to put the HovAlpha to the test by attempting to climb steep hills. Utilizing throttle-only mode, they are surprised to find that the bike effortlessly carries them up challenging slopes. The torque sensor provides the necessary power and assistance, making the ascent feel achievable and enjoyable.

I further explore the capabilities of the torque sensor by attempting even steeper hills. To their astonishment, the bike almost wheelies due to the torque assistance, showcasing the incredible power and responsiveness of the system. I express their satisfaction and mention how they wish all their e-bikes had a torque sensor.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: handy LED light

With the initial overview complete, the next step is to conduct a speed test. With a full battery voltage of 54.6 volts, the top speed of the HovAlpha will be determined. Let’s embark on the speed test and see how fast it can go.

The HOVSCO HovAlpha features a display that provides riders with essential information and control options. The display allows easy access to various settings and modes, ensuring a seamless riding experience. In this case, I have already unlocked the bike through the accompanying app, granting full access to its capabilities.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: driving and ride on sand

For the speed test, I opted to use the thumb throttle exclusively. As they turn around, they plan to switch to pedal assist mode. The pedal assist level is set to the maximum, pedal assist five. The bike offers a total of seven gears for a versatile riding experience.

During the test, I experienced the quick takeoff enabled by the torque sensor. They feel the immediate response and the impact of the torque sensor, providing a noticeable push forward. The torque sensor on this bike is a new and exciting feature for the rider, offering a different riding experience compared to bikes with cadence sensors like Eskute Spark X.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: driving and ride

I reach a top speed of 28 miles per hour using the throttle, but they note that at this speed, the torque assistance reduces. However, they continue pedaling to achieve a maximum speed of almost 30 miles per hour. The torque sensor provides a unique sense of control and responsiveness, allowing me to adjust their effort and feel connected to the bike.

I appreciate the control and versatility offered by the torque sensor, as it allows them to ride at an easy pace while still getting a workout. Compared to cadence sensors, which can sometimes feel abrupt and less customizable, the torque sensor provides a smoother and more controlled riding experience.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: driving and ride on the earth

Next, I sets out to test the bike’s capabilities on the beach. While acknowledging that the bike might not be able to pull them all the way to the beach, they are determined to see how far it can go. With pedal assist set to level five, they venture onto the sand and find that the bike performs surprisingly well, effortlessly pedaling through deep and challenging terrain. I decided to release some air from the rear tire, making it squishier and further enhancing the bike’s ability to handle the sand.

The rider’s experience on the beach is exhilarating, and they have fun drifting and maneuvering through the sand. They highlight the excellent performance of the HovAlpha’s larger tires, which work exceptionally well on the beach terrain. The ability to pedal effortlessly through the sand leaves impressed, and they express their enjoyment of the torque sensor, as it adds to the overall fun and engagement of the ride.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: driving and ride on sand

As I approach the water, they remind viewers to wash off the bike after riding on the beach to prevent any damage from sand or water exposure. I continue to explore the beach, finding joy in the bike’s capabilities and the workout it provides. They even attempt to jump over a horseshoe crab shell, showcasing the bike’s versatility and their playful nature.

Wrapping up the ride, I reflected on the HovAlpha’s performance, deeming it one of the most enjoyable bikes they have ridden on the beach. They express their appreciation for the torque sensor, believing that every e-bike should have this feature, despite acknowledging the potential higher cost compared to cadence sensors. I concluded the ride by adjusting the rear tire’s pressure and highlighting the bike’s use of a USB-C charging port.

Battery and Range

Hidden within the frame of the HOVSCO HovAlpha is a removable internal lithium-ion 48-volt 20-amp hour battery. This concealed placement gives the e-bike a stealthy appearance. The battery capacity offers substantial power for extended rides. The manufacturer claims a range of approximately 60 to 80 miles, assuming pedaling on mode one.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: battery and power

After an exciting ride, I provide an update on the distance traveled and the remaining battery life. They mention covering a distance of 15.2 miles and having three battery bars left. As they ride through a pitch-black trail, they demonstrate the functionality of the headlights, although noting that they could be brighter for optimal visibility in such conditions.

I decide to conduct a quick range check, which reveals that they have traveled 20.2 miles so far, leaving them with two battery bars. They start to feel the effects of battery sag, which slightly impacts the bike’s performance. The top speed they reach is approximately 24 miles per hour.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: design and appearance

Surprisingly, the review transitions into nighttime, and I express my excitement about continuing the ride on the HOVSCO HovAlpha. They mention having an absolute blast while pedaling, highlighting the fun they had even in low-light conditions.

Of course, I can’t end the video without attempting a jump near a church. However, they notice a stick stuck in front of it, which may pose a potential obstacle.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: frame 60-61 single-butted aluminum alloy

I had a fantastic time riding the bike and were particularly impressed with the torque sensor, which provided a unique and enjoyable riding experience. I mentioned feeling exhausted after covering a distance of 21.7 miles, and they plan to check the battery voltage using the grand charger once they get home.

Conclusions

Overall, the HOVSCO HovAlpha electric bike proves to be a reliable and exciting option for riders seeking a versatile and affordable e-bike. With its combination of performance, features, and affordability, this e-bike offers an excellent riding experience for both experienced cyclists and newcomers to electric biking.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: design and appearance

The bike’s design elements, such as the sleek frame and the stealthy appearance, add to its overall appeal. The inclusion of a front headlight and rear tail light, with separate battery power, enhances visibility and safety during night rides.

Riders can choose between five levels of pedal assist, along with the option to use the thumb throttle for a quick start. The torque sensor technology ensures a responsive and controlled riding experience, allowing riders to effortlessly navigate hilly terrain and enjoy a customizable workout.

HOVSCO HovAlpha Review: driving and ride on the earth

So, HOVSCO HovAlpha electric bike stands out as an impressive and versatile two-wheeler, catering to a wide range of cyclists. With its punchy performance and ability to tackle various terrains, this e-bike offers an exhilarating riding experience. VTUVIA Reindeer Review: how it looks like

This is the VTUVIA Reindeer, and I express their excitement to test the bike and provide an in-depth review. They introduce themselves as Electrified Reviews and mention that they have tested several VTUVIA e-bikes in the past few months, finding the Reindeer to be on par with the other models they have tested.

I acknowledge that VTUVIA has a significant number of dealers in the US, making it convenient for potential buyers to access the bike. However, they also mention that for those who don’t live near a dealer, the assembly process was fairly straightforward. They received all the necessary components and instructions required to set up the Reindeer, and it didn’t take them a significant amount of time to get the bike up and running.

The VTUVIA Reindeer is listed with a discounted price of $1,799.00, which represents a 5% discount off the original list price of $1,899.00. This discounted price makes the Reindeer a more affordable option for potential buyers.

It seems like I am eager to move on to the actual review of the Reindeer, indicating that they will provide more details and insights into the bike’s performance and features.

Design and Build Quality

The VTUVIA Reindeer is a versatile electric bike known for its design and build quality. While I cannot speak to the specific quality of the bike, I can provide information based on your description.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: build quality and design

Upon receiving the VTUVIA Reindeer, my initial impression was that it was a bike designed to be assembled quickly and ridden without delay. It was described as a “no-frills” fat tire e-bike that efficiently gets the job done. While this may not sound particularly exciting, it emphasizes the bike’s practicality and functionality.

In terms of design, the Reindeer features a sturdy frame that can handle off-road terrain with ease. The bike is equipped with fat tires, which are ideal for both off-road adventures and smooth pavement rides. These tires allow you to effortlessly cruise over cracks and bumps, providing a comfortable and enjoyable riding experience.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: lights front on bike

The absence of racks and fenders may be a drawback, especially if you intend to use the Reindeer for commuting purposes. Racks are convenient for carrying items, such as bags or groceries, while fenders help protect you from splashes and dirt when riding on wet or muddy surfaces. However, if you were to add these accessories to the bike, it could transform the Reindeer into a decent all-purpose e-bike suitable for various activities.

In terms of comfort, the Reindeer relies on its fat 26-inch by 4-inch tires and front suspension. These features contribute to a comfortable ride, especially when traversing uneven terrain. The frame of the bike has a low 20-inch standover height, making it easily accessible for individuals who may have physical limitations or injuries that require a step-through design.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: fat tires 26-inch by 4-inch tires

VTUVIA claims that the rider’s height range for the Reindeer can be between five foot eight and six foot five, but I suggest that even someone who is five foot seven may find a good fit. Additionally, although their unit did not have an adjustable stem, I mentioned that it is a simple upgrade that would allow taller individuals to customize their riding position and feel more comfortable.

In terms of safety, the Reindeer excels in certain areas but may have room for improvement in others. The brakes are described as “Rock Solid,” featuring Logan hydraulic brakes with 180 millimeter rotors. Hydraulic brakes are known for their reliability and effective stopping power, making them a valuable asset for any e-bike, especially when riding at higher speeds or on challenging terrain.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: brakes system

While the description hints at the Reindeer’s positive safety aspects, it does not provide comprehensive information about other safety features, such as lighting systems, reflectors, or suspension systems. These are essential components to consider when evaluating the overall safety of an electric bike.

One important safety feature is the presence of double locking grips. Double locking grips provide a secure hold on the handlebars, minimizing the chances of your hands slipping during rides. This feature adds stability and control, which is essential for safe maneuvering.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: lights front on

The Reindeer also incorporates sidewall reflective strips on the tires. These reflective strips enhance visibility during nighttime rides or in low-light environments. By reflecting light from other sources, such as vehicle headlights, the strips make you more visible to others on the road, reducing the risk of accidents.

Furthermore, the Reindeer comes equipped with an integrated front light. This front light illuminates the path ahead, making it easier to navigate in the early morning hours or during dark conditions. Having a front light enhances safety by providing better visibility of potential obstacles or hazards on the road.

Performance and Driving

The VTUVIA Reindeer boasts an impressive power output with its 750-watt motor, which is capable of reaching peak performance at 1100 watts. The manufacturer claims that the motor delivers 80 newton meters of torque, providing a strong and responsive acceleration.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: motor and power

However, according to your experience, the Reindeer seems to offer even more power than stated. This sensation could be due to various factors, such as the bike’s design, gearing, or the overall riding experience. The combination of the motor’s wattage and torque output contributes to the Reindeer’s ability to provide an exhilarating and sporty ride.

It is worth noting that while the Reindeer offers a touch of sportiness, it still aims to be an approachable e-bike. This means that it caters to a wide range of riders, from those seeking a leisurely cruise to those desiring a more spirited ride. The balance between approachability and sportiness is a key aspect of the Reindeer’s design.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: driving front view

With a top speed of 20 miles per hour, the VTUVIA Reindeer offers a decent level of speed for an e-bike, like Haoqi Eagle. To ensure safe and effective braking, hydraulic brakes are considered essential, especially at higher speeds. It’s common for riders to notice the absence of hydraulic brakes on similar e-bikes, and their inclusion on the Reindeer is appreciated.

One notable feature of the Reindeer is that regardless of the selected pedal assist level, even in pedal assist level 0, you have full access to the motor’s power by using the throttle. The throttle function allows you to reach a maximum speed of around 25 miles per hour. However, to achieve an additional boost of 3 miles per hour, you would need to switch to pedal assist level 5 and utilize the pedal-assist feature.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: size and weight

By offering both throttle and pedal-assist options, the Reindeer caters to different riding scenarios and individual preferences. While the throttle provides immediate power, the pedal-assist mode allows for a more dynamic and engaging riding experience, providing that extra speed boost when needed.

When it came to braking, the hydraulic brakes on the Reindeer performed admirably. I mentioned the importance of having hydraulic brakes on a bike that can reach speeds of over 20 miles per hour, and they were glad to see them included. A brake test was conducted, demonstrating smooth and controlled braking within a distance of about 12 feet.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: driving

The bike’s grips were highlighted, featuring a double locking mechanism for added security and stability. Initially, the choice of ergonomic faux leather grips seemed odd considering the bike’s off-road appearance. However, after riding with them, I found them to be a comfortable choice, particularly complementing the bike’s approachable step-through frame design.

During the ride, the bike’s stability was noted, attributed to its geometry and the slacker head tube angle. The Reindeer handled well, especially when faced with descents or bumps, thanks to its fat tires with an aggressive tread pattern.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: Decent Off Road E-Bike!

During the ride test, I decided to conduct a hands-free test, which involved riding the bike without holding onto the handlebars. They described the experience as beautiful and easy, even at slow speeds. The bike provided a comfortable and stable ride, allowing the rider to confidently navigate without using their hands.

Next, I  stopped to perform a few additional tests at the starting line. They decided to turn off the pedal assist level and check if the throttle still functioned. They discovered that even with the pedal assist level set to zero, the throttle still worked. This was seen as a safety feature, ensuring that the throttle could only be activated when the pedal assist level was one or above. It was noted that individuals unfamiliar with e-bikes and thumb throttles should be aware that the throttle can still operate at pedal assist level zero.

To demonstrate the bike’s capabilities, I quickly shifted up to gear seven, representing a higher gear for increased speed. They compared the bike to a reindeer, flying around and delivering presents while aiming to stay on the nice list. Then conducted a brake test at a stop sign and expressed the importance of putting the bike’s braking capabilities to the test during a review. They found the braking performance to be excellent.

In terms of handling, the slacker head tube angle of the bike was noticeable, especially when compared to other bikes I had recently ridden. This angle contributed to improved handling, particularly when encountering descents, bumps, or various obstacles in everyday riding scenarios. The fat tires with an aggressive tread pattern further enhanced the bike’s ability to handle different terrains.

Battery and Range

The VTUVIA Reindeer is equipped with a battery that has a capacity of approximately 720 Watt-hours. This battery capacity translates to an estimated range of around 30 miles on the lower end and up to 50 miles on the higher end, depending on various factors such as terrain, rider weight, riding style, and the use of throttle or pedal assist.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: frame and battery

I mentioned that based on their own riding experience, they would expect to achieve approximately 30 miles of range when frequently using the throttle. They specifically mentioned their weight as 220 pounds, which can affect the overall range of the bike.

One noteworthy aspect highlighted by me was the ease of removing the battery. Although this might not typically be a significant point of discussion, I noted that some e-bikes with under-the-downtube batteries can lack sufficient clearance, making it challenging to remove the battery when needed. However, the VTUVIA excelled in this aspect, providing ample space to easily insert and remove the battery as required.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: driving and ride

In terms of battery range and accessibility, the VTUVIA Reindeer seems to offer a decent range that can comfortably cover short to medium-distance rides. The bike’s battery capacity and ease of removal contribute to the overall convenience and practicality of the e-bike, allowing riders to confidently plan their journeys without concerns about running out of power.

Conclusions

Overall, I had a positive experience with the VTUVIA Reindeer and enjoyed riding it. They suggest that anyone who hops on the bike for the first time would likely have a similar enjoyable experience. While the Reindeer offers some nice little additions such as the double locking grips and sidewall reflective stripes, it doesn’t feel like a complete package due to the absence of a rack and fenders.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: design and slogan

I mentioned that it seems like anyone who purchases the Reindeer will receive the rack and fenders for free, but they cannot provide feedback on those specific features since their unit did not include them. However, they note that if one were to acquire the Fenderson rack, there wouldn’t be much to complain about.

VTUVIA Reindeer Review: design and appearance

In summary, I liked the Reindeer for what it was, had a great time riding it, and believes that others would likely share a similar positive experience. They acknowledge the bike’s nice additions but feel that it lacks some essential components. Nevertheless, with the inclusion of the rack and fenders, the Reindeer would become a more complete package. I encourage others who own the Reindeer to share their own experiences with the bike.

The handlebars are adjustable using a simple locking mechanism, allowing riders to customize their riding experience easily. Additionally, the A9 includes a bell for alerting pedestrians and other cyclists, enhancing safety during rides.

To power the electric motor, the bike is equipped with a battery that can be easily removed using the included set of keys. This feature allows for convenient charging or replacement of the battery when needed. The motor itself provides sufficient power for various riding conditions, whether it’s utilizing the pedal-assist mode or relying on the throttle.

In terms of gear shifting, the Kornorge A9 incorporates a seven-speed Shimano shifter. This shifter enables riders to switch between gears effortlessly, adapting to different terrains and riding preferences.

One of the cool features of the Kornorge A9 electric bike is its foldable design, which includes foldable pedals. This allows you to further reduce the bike’s size when folding it for storage or transportation. By folding up the pedals, you can make the A9 even more compact, making it easier to fit into small spaces or carry in a car.

The compact size achieved through the folding process makes the Kornorge A9 highly portable. It can be easily placed in a car for transportation or carried with you on the go. Compared to other foldable e-bikes on the market, which typically weigh between 60 to 80 pounds, the A9’s weight of 41 pounds is relatively light. Considering the inclusion of the mechanical components, heavy-duty aluminum alloy frame, battery, and motor, the weight is quite reasonable. This lightweight feature adds to the bike’s convenience, making it suitable for travel and easy handling.

The stem of the bike doubles as the battery housing, located conveniently in the center. This placement allows for easy adjustment of the battery height, catering to different rider preferences. Additionally, the battery can be easily removed, providing the flexibility to charge it indoors during winter or other unfavorable weather conditions, ensuring optimal battery performance and longevity.

Kornorge A9 Review design

The Kornorge A9 features a rear light mounted on the seat and a reflector for enhanced visibility and safety during night rides or low-light conditions. Charging the battery is a straightforward process, as you can charge it directly without the need to remove it from the bike. The charging port is conveniently located for easy access.

The seat of the A9 is comfortable, although it may not be considered a top-end seat for e-bikes. However, it provides sufficient comfort for regular rides. If you plan to ride the bike extensively on the road, you may consider replacing the seat for a more specialized option. It’s worth noting that the A9 does not have rear suspension, so you may feel bumps and vibrations more prominently. While the bike’s tires are decent and suitable for urban environments, it’s not recommended for off-road riding.

Motor and Driving

The performance of the Kornorge A9 electric bike is impressive, offering a combination of power and versatility for riders. The bike features a rear hub motor, positioned on the back wheel, providing efficient propulsion. With a 250-watt motor, the A9 can reach speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour, making it suitable for urban commuting and recreational riding.

Kornorge A9 Review driving on city

The A9 is classified as a Class 2 e-bike, meaning it offers both straight throttle and pedal assist modes. This versatility allows riders to choose their preferred method of propulsion. Whether you prefer a more relaxed ride using the throttle or want to engage in a workout with pedal assist, the A9 accommodates both options.

The bike is equipped with a derailleur, which controls the gear shifting. The derailleur system enables smooth and seamless transitions between the seven available gears, allowing riders to adapt to different terrains and gradients. This feature ensures that you can maintain an optimal pedaling cadence regardless of the riding conditions.

The Kornorge A9 is primarily designed as a commuter e-bike, prioritizing portability and convenience over off-road capabilities. Its lightweight construction and foldable design make it an ideal choice for urban commuting, allowing riders to easily carry it into their office or take it with them while traveling.

Kornorge A9 Review driving look front

It’s important to note that the A9 does not feature rear or front suspension, indicating that it is not intended for off-road use. Instead, it is best suited for navigating city streets and smooth paved surfaces. The absence of suspension means that the bike may not handle rough terrains or absorb shocks as effectively as dedicated off-road bikes.

However, the A9 does include a front light, enabling riders to safely navigate in low-light conditions. The light can be adjusted to illuminate the road ahead, providing enhanced visibility during night rides.

Regarding tire size, the A9 is equipped with 20-inch tires. While they are not fat tires, they are not extremely narrow either. This tire size allows for some versatility, and while the bike could handle light dirt paths, it is not recommended for sandy or snowy terrains. For those environments, a dedicated fat tire e-bike would be more suitable.

Kornorge A9 Review impressions and power

To fold the A9 for storage or transportation, you can manipulate the stem. Releasing the appropriate mechanisms allows for the folding process, further compacting the bike’s size for easy handling and storage.

When riding the Kornorge electric bike in pure electric mode, you have the option to set the Pedal Assist System (PAS) to levels 1, 2, or 3, depending on your desired speed and power output. Once the PAS level is selected, you can engage the throttle to activate the bike’s motor and experience effortless propulsion.

At PAS level 1, the bike will reach a speed of approximately 9 miles per hour (14.5 kilometers per hour) when using the throttle. This mode is ideal for a leisurely ride or navigating crowded areas with ease.

Kornorge A9 Review ride and test

When set to PAS level 2, the Kornorge A9 can achieve a speed of around 12 miles per hour (19.3 kilometers per hour) using the throttle. This mode provides a slightly faster pace, suitable for covering moderate distances in a shorter amount of time.

If you prefer a faster electric ride, selecting PAS level 3 will propel the bike up to approximately 15 miles per hour (24 kilometers per hour) when utilizing the throttle. This mode offers a more exhilarating experience and is particularly useful when you need to reach your destination quickly or ride on open roads with higher speed limits.

Battery and Range

The Kornorge A9 electric bike is equipped with a removable 36V 7.5Ah lithium-ion battery, providing reliable power for your rides. The removable design offers convenience and flexibility, allowing you to easily detach the battery for charging or storage.

With the 7.5Ah capacity, the battery provides sufficient energy to support your cycling needs. When riding in Pedal Assist System (PAS) level 1, the A9 can travel up to approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) on a single charge. It’s important to note that the actual range may vary depending on factors such as terrain, rider weight, riding conditions, and the assistance level selected.

To ensure optimal battery performance and longevity, it is recommended to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging and maintenance. Charging the battery is a simple process, either by directly connecting it to the bike or removing it for charging indoors.

Conclusions

Overall, the Kornorge A9 folding e-bike impresses with its lightweight design, compact folding capability, and convenient portability. With its small size and foldable features, it becomes an excellent choice for those looking to transport their e-bike in small vehicles or easily store it in compact spaces.

Kornorge A9 Review driving on city

The A9’s performance on the road showcases its efficiency and reliability. Whether using the pedal-assist or throttle mode, riders can enjoy a smooth and effortless ride, reaching speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. The 36V 7.5Ah lithium-ion battery provides a respectable range of approximately 25 miles in PAS level 1, ensuring sufficient coverage for daily commuting or leisurely rides.

So, the Kornorge A9 folding e-bike provides a compelling option for those seeking a lightweight, portable, and efficient mode of transportation. Its design, build quality, and features make it a standout choice in the e-bike market. Whether for daily commuting, short trips, or recreational rides, the Kornorge A9 offers convenience, performance, and affordability in one sleek package.

Design and Build Quality

The ENGWE L20 is a cutting-edge e-bike that combines practicality, versatility, and rugged off-road capabilities. Its design and build quality make it a standout option in the cargo e-bike category. Let’s delve into its features and specifications.

The first notable feature of the L20 is its 20-inch fat tires. These knobby, 20 x 4-inch wheels provide excellent traction and stability, allowing riders to confidently navigate various terrains, including off-road trails. The inclusion of mag rims further enhances the bike’s durability and contributes to its overall build quality.

The step-through style of the ENGWE L20 is designed with convenience in mind. This feature allows riders to easily mount and dismount the bike, making it accessible for individuals of different heights and abilities. The adjustable seat height caters to a wide range of riders, accommodating heights from five feet to six feet eight inches.

Cargo capacity is a significant highlight of the L20. With racks on both the front and rear of the bike, it offers ample space for carrying various loads. The total weight capacity of 264 pounds ensures that you can transport groceries, packages, or other cargo items with ease. This makes the bike an ideal choice for urban commuting, grocery runs, or even light commercial use.

Another adjustable component is the BMX-style handlebars. They can be easily adjusted forwards and backward to accommodate different riding preferences and body types. This versatility allows riders to find a comfortable and ergonomic riding position, enhancing the overall riding experience.

The ENGWE L20 features mechanical disc brakes with 160 millimeter rotors both in the front and the rear. Although the specific brand of the brake calipers is not mentioned, they have proven to work efficiently on this bike. The brakes were well adjusted from the factory, ensuring reliable stopping power.

The front fork suspension on the L20 provides a smooth and comfortable ride, especially when encountering bumps or uneven terrain. It is equipped with a lockout feature, allowing riders to lock the suspension when riding on smooth surfaces or when maximum pedaling efficiency is desired. The tension adjustment feature enables users to fine-tune the suspension according to their preference and riding conditions.

For gear shifting, the bike comes with a standard Shimano Tourney seven-speed derailleur in the rear, paired with a seven-gear cassette. While the brand of the brake calipers is unknown, the Tourney derailleur is a recognized and widely used component known for its reliability and smooth gear transitions. To protect the derailleur from potential damage during shipment, a derailleur guard is installed. In case it gets pushed in, it can be easily pulled back into place.

The seat height of the L20 is adjustable, allowing riders to find their preferred riding position. By adjusting a latch, the seat can be raised or lowered to accommodate individual comfort levels.

To remove the battery, the key needs to be inserted and locked into place. This unique feature ensures that the bike remains operational when the battery is in use. However, it may seem a bit unconventional that the key cannot be removed while the battery is locked in place. Typically, the key can be removed, and the battery stays securely in position.

One standout feature is the rubber grip on the handlebars, providing a comfortable and secure grip while riding. Unlike bare metal handles, the rubber grip ensures a better hold, especially during long rides or off-road adventures.

The frame of the ENGWE L20 is constructed from 6061 aluminum, known for its strength and durability. While the specific variant of aluminum used in this model is not mentioned, the frame feels solid and sturdy. The welds on the frame are decent, indicating a reliable build quality.

The bike is available in multiple color options, including black, white, green, and pink, allowing riders to choose a style that suits their preferences. The black variant features a powder-coated finish, adding a sleek and refined look to the overall design.

In terms of lighting, the ENGWE is equipped with a headlight in the front. Activating the light involves a long press of the bottom button. While the headlight provides adequate illumination, it is worth noting that it is attached to the rack and remains stationary, pointing straight ahead regardless of handlebar movement. The rear brake light is also present, enhancing safety during rides. However, the bike does not come with turn signals.

During the assembly process, it is important to note the positioning of certain components. The cable that comes out from the bottom and goes upward needs to be on the left side when viewed from the seating position. This is because the rack has a retention bar that holds the cable in place when turning the handlebar. Placing the cable on the other side will result in it being too short. Paying attention to this detail ensures proper functionality and prevents any inconvenience.

Assembling the L20 is a straightforward process. The handlebar can be easily attached using four bolts. The fender and wheels follow the standard installation procedure. The front rack can be secured using four screws, and the front light can be attached. Once assembled, the battery can be charged, and the seat can be inserted.

Motor and Driving

The ENGWE L20 is equipped with a powerful rear hub motor, boasting a capacity of 750 watts. It is capable of bursting up to 900 watts when required. The motor provides ample propulsion, assisting riders in overcoming various terrains and achieving higher speeds effortlessly.

The bike’s display is located conveniently on the handlebars. To turn it on, a long press of the button on the top is required. Although the camera may not capture it accurately, the display is relatively easy to read in person. It provides essential information such as the battery gauge, indicating the current battery level.

Additionally, it displays the speedometer, allowing riders to keep track of their speed. The display also shows the selected pedal assist level, enabling users to choose the level of assistance they desire. Furthermore, the display includes an odometer and a total miles counter, helping riders keep track of their overall distance covered.

The grips on the handlebars are standard and offer a comfortable and secure hold. On the left side, there is a standard grip, while the right side features a BMX-style handlebar, providing riders with a variety of hand positions for added comfort during long rides.

The gear shifting on the ENGWE L20 is accomplished using a sis shifter located on the top. This shifter follows a pretty standard entry-level design, allowing riders to shift gears smoothly and efficiently.

A notable feature on the handlebars is the half twist throttle, which is preferred by many riders. This type of throttle provides intuitive control, where a simple twist of the grip engages the motor assistance. It offers a responsive and user-friendly experience, allowing riders to accelerate and maintain desired speeds effortlessly.

The brake levers on the ENGWE L20 are positioned conveniently on the handlebars, ensuring quick and reliable stopping power. While the specific details of the brake levers are not mentioned, they are designed to provide efficient braking performance, allowing riders to confidently navigate various riding conditions.

At level three of pedal assist, the motor on the ENGWE L20 becomes audible, and the bike reaches a speed of approximately 13 miles per hour on a road. Increasing to level four results in freewheeling and a speed of around 18 miles per hour. Bumping up to level five on pedal assist allows for a maximum speed of 24 miles per hour, surpassing the manufacturer’s rating of 20.5 miles per hour. However, it’s worth noting that the actual top speed may vary depending on factors such as rider weight and terrain.

Switching to throttle-only mode, without pedaling, at level one, the motor provides minimal assistance, resulting in a speed of about 5 miles per hour. Level two offers a bit more motor support, reaching around 8 miles per hour. Moving up to level three on throttle-only mode mirrors the speed achieved in pedal assist mode at 13 miles per hour. Level four on throttle-only mode allows for a speed of 18 miles per hour, similar to the speed achieved with pedal assist at the same level. Finally, at level five on throttle-only mode, speeds of 22 to 24 miles per hour can be attained, comparable to the maximum speed achieved in pedal assist mode.

The ride on the ENGWE L20 is reported to be smooth, with the shocks effectively absorbing minor cracks on the sidewalk. It’s important to note that while the bike lacks rear suspension, the seat does provide some comfort. However, riders seeking a wider or softer seat may opt for third-party alternatives. The adjustable handlebars allow for customization of the riding position, enabling riders to lean forward or sit back as desired. The seat height is personally set lower for better stability and a lower center of gravity, but preferences may vary among riders.

The L20 features 20 by 4-inch knobby fat tires, allowing for off-road capability. Riding through grass poses no issue, demonstrating the bike’s versatility. While it may not be the ideal surface for everyone, the tires handle the task adequately.

So, the ENGWE L20 offers a comfortable and smooth ride, with adjustable handlebars and a seat that can be tailored to individual preferences. The bike’s fat tires provide off-road capabilities, making it suitable for various terrains.

Battery and Range

The ENGWE L20 comes equipped with a substantial battery, offering a capacity of 48 volts and 13 amp hours, which amounts to a total of 624 watt hours. The manufacturer claims a range of up to 90 miles, although this estimation is based on ideal conditions such as flat terrain, no wind resistance, and the use of pedal assist.

It’s important to note that real-world situations can vary, depending on factors like terrain, rider weight, riding speed, and the level of assistance utilized. For instance, tackling steep hills or riding at high speeds may reduce the overall range.

In terms of charging time, it depends on the battery’s starting point, but typically, it takes several hours to charge the battery from empty to full. It is advisable to follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding battery charging to ensure optimal performance.

Charging the battery typically takes around six to eight hours, as it utilizes a 2 amp charger. While not considered a fast-charging option, this charging time frame is within the standard range for e-bikes.

The package includes the necessary tools, an instruction manual, and the charger itself. You have the flexibility to charge the battery either on or off the bike, as per your preference. The charge port is conveniently located on the side, behind a small cover. Simply pull back the cover, and you can connect the charger to the port. If desired, you can remove the battery from the bike by unlocking it and charge it separately.

Conclusions

In the end, the ENGWE L20 is a commendable e-bike that excels in its cargo carrying capabilities. The inclusion of extra cargo racks allows for the transportation of additional weights, making it a practical choice for those who require storage capacity. The wider base of the bike, compared to most 20-inch e-bikes, adds to its stability when carrying cargo, providing a more secure and balanced ride.

Also, the L20 exhibits good quality and delivers a satisfying riding experience. The bike’s design and build quality, along with its thoughtful features such as the step-through style and adjustable handlebars, contribute to its overall appeal. It is worth noting that the e-bike may be available at a discounted price during special promotions, such as the Father’s Day Sale in June, which offers an opportunity for potential buyers to make the most of cost savings.

FUELL Flluid 3’s unique design allows for a hassle-free belt drive experience without the need for a rear internally geared hub. The integration of the motor and gearbox in the center of the bike, combined with the use of a single-speed rear hub, offers benefits such as improved weight distribution, enhanced maneuverability, and reduced vulnerability to theft. For belt drive enthusiasts, this design feature sets the Flluid 3 apart and further enhances its appeal as a high-quality electric bicycle.

The Flluid 3 rides on Pirelli Cycl-E 27.5″ tires, which strike a balance between grip, durability, and rolling resistance. These tires provide excellent traction, ensuring stability and control on various surfaces. They are designed to handle the demands of electric bike riding and offer a smooth and comfortable experience.

The e-bike features a robust rear rack that adds both functionality and durability. Motor and Driving

The FUELL Flluid 3 electric bicycle is equipped with a powerful and efficient mid-drive motor developed in partnership with VALEO, known as the VALEO Cyclee. This motor is a key component that contributes to the bike’s exceptional performance and riding experience.

The VALEO Cyclee motor boasts a nominal output of 750 watts, providing ample power to propel the Flluid 3 forward with ease. This robust motor ensures smooth acceleration and efficient power delivery, allowing riders to effortlessly tackle various terrains and inclines.

In addition to its impressive power output, the VALEO Cyclee motor delivers a substantial amount of torque, measuring at 130 Nm. Torque is a measure of rotational force, and the high torque rating of the Flluid 3’s motor translates into excellent hill-climbing capabilities and quick acceleration. Riders can confidently conquer steep hills and challenging off-road trails, knowing that the motor will provide the necessary power and torque to overcome obstacles.

The Flluid 3’s motor is paired with a 7-speed automatic shifter, offering convenience and adaptability during rides. The automatic shifting system takes care of gear changes, ensuring that riders are always in the optimal gear for efficient pedaling and maximum motor assistance. This feature allows riders to focus on enjoying the ride rather than worrying about manual gear shifting, enhancing the overall riding experience and making it more accessible to a wide range of individuals.

The maximum assistance provided by the Flluid 2 and Flluid 3 is up to 28 mph. With this level of assistance, riders can confidently tackle longer distances or maintain higher speeds with ease, making the Flluid 3 suitable for commuting or recreational riding.

In addition to pedal-assist, these electric bicycles also feature throttle control. The throttle allows riders to engage the motor without pedaling, propelling the bike forward. With throttle control, riders can reach speeds of up to 20 mph solely by using the throttle, providing an effortless and convenient way to navigate urban environments or handle situations where pedaling may not be preferred or necessary.

The sound of the motor is a factor that varies from rider to rider. Some individuals may view it as a minor trade-off for the enhanced power and capabilities offered by the Flluid 3, while others may prioritize a quieter riding experience. As with any aspect of a bike, it’s essential to consider personal preferences and priorities when evaluating the Flluid 3’s sound level in the context of its other notable features.

Interestingly, despite the audible gearbox sound, the automatic shifting mechanism remains relatively quiet. While you may not hear the shifting process itself, you can feel it as your cadence is modified throughout acceleration. The automatic shifting system seamlessly adjusts the gear ratios based on your speed and pedaling effort, ensuring optimal efficiency and smooth power delivery. This refinement in shifting contributes to a seamless riding experience without any jarring or abrupt gear changes.

Over time, the sound of the gearbox winding up became something that I actually appreciated. It became an integral part of the Flluid-2 or Flluid 3’s overall charm, adding to the thrill and excitement of riding the bike. The auditory feedback provided by the gearbox winding up creates a unique connection between the rider and the machine, enhancing the sense of control and engagement.

In the end, the appreciation of the motor’s sound winding up is subjective and based on personal preference. While some riders may prefer a completely silent ride, others, like myself, enjoy the additional sensations and feedback that the sound provides. Ultimately, it’s a matter of individual preference and what adds to the overall enjoyment and connection with the Flluid-2 or Flluid 3 electric bicycle.

Battery and Range

The total battery capacity of the Flluid 3 is 1000Wh. This substantial capacity allows for longer rides without the need for frequent recharging, providing riders with the freedom to explore and travel greater distances.

The battery operates at a voltage of 51.8 volts, ensuring efficient power delivery to the motor and maximizing the performance of the electric bicycles.

For charging convenience, the Flluid 3 comes with a 3 Amp fast charger. This charger enables a relatively quick recharge time, allowing for an 80% charge in approximately 4 hours when charged at home. Achieving a full 100% charge takes approximately 6 hours. This quick charging capability reduces downtime and ensures that riders can get back on the road in a relatively short period.

An additional advantage of the Flluid 3 is the removable battery feature. This allows riders to easily detach the battery from the frame for charging or storage. The removable battery design adds convenience and flexibility, particularly for those who may not have a power outlet near their bike storage area.

In terms of range, the Flluid 3 offers impressive capabilities. With low assist levels, riders can enjoy a range of up to 110 miles or 180 kilometers, allowing for extended rides without the need for recharging. When utilizing maximum assistance, the range is still impressive, reaching up to 60 miles or 95 kilometers. This range ensures that riders can cover significant distances, whether for commuting purposes or recreational adventures.

Conclusions

The FUELL Flluid 3 electric bike is not positioned as budget-friendly options, but rather as unique, rugged, and highly reliable e-bikes that offer exceptional performance and comfort. The price point, starting at $5,495, places them in a higher range of the market, which may limit their accessibility to a certain segment of buyers. Motor and Driving

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 features a full-power eMTB motor, the Specialized 2.0, which delivers an impressive 70 Newton meters of torque. However, if you opt for the higher-level Tero X model, you’ll enjoy the Specialized 2.2 motor, which is the same motor found on the Turbo Levo Carbon. These motors signify that the Tero X is a legitimate eMTB, built to tackle various terrains and demanding trails.

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 offers three different levels of pedal-assist (PAS) modes: Eco, Trail, and Turbo. Each mode provides varying levels of assistance to suit different riding conditions and preferences. Let’s explore how these PAS levels influenced the speed and performance during your test rides.

When you switched to Eco mode, you experienced a noticeable increase in average speed. With the added assistance from the motor, your average speed rose to 17 mph. This mode is ideal for conserving battery power and extending the range of your ride, while still providing a helpful boost to your pedaling efforts.

Moving on to Trail mode, you achieved even higher speeds. Completing the loop at an average speed of 19 mph, you enjoyed a faster and more exhilarating ride. The assistance level in Trail mode strikes a balance between efficiency and performance, making it well-suited for varied terrains and longer rides.

For an even more thrilling ride, you engaged Turbo mode. This mode provides the highest level of assistance, delivering maximum power and acceleration. As a result, you blazed through your fourth lap at an average speed of 22 mph, showcasing the Tero X 5.0’s impressive capabilities. Additionally, reaching a maximum speed of 28 mph demonstrated the bike’s ability to propel you swiftly and effortlessly.

During our testing, we conducted a hill test that simulated a challenging ascent, one that most people would avoid if they either lacked an e-bike or had common sense. This particular hill, although only a third of a mile in length, featured an average grade of 15 percent. This means that there were sections along the climb that were even steeper than that average grade.

This hill test highlighted the capability of the Turbo Tero X 5.0 to conquer challenging terrain. With the assistance of the e-bike’s motor, riders can confidently take on steep inclines that would otherwise be daunting or even impossible. The combination of the powerful motor and the rider’s pedaling effort allows for a seamless and efficient ascent, turning an arduous climb into an achievable feat.

By providing the necessary power and torque, the Turbo Tero X 5.0 empowers riders to explore and tackle routes that may have previously been off-limits. It opens up opportunities for riders to experience new trails, conquer difficult ascents, and enjoy the thrill of riding in demanding terrain.

One notable feature of the brake system was its impressive lack of squeaking. Even under intense and prolonged braking, there were no irritating squeaks that could potentially distract or detract from the riding experience. This is a testament to the high-quality construction and design of the brake system, ensuring smooth and noise-free operation.

Moreover, the brake system exhibited excellent modulation, allowing for precise control over braking power. This level of modulation is crucial when navigating technical descents, where riders need to carefully manage their speed and control to negotiate obstacles and maintain stability. The Tero X 5.0’s brake system delivered the perfect balance of stopping power and finesse, enabling riders to confidently maneuver down steep rollers and tackle challenging sections with ease.

Battery and Range

To thoroughly evaluate the capabilities of the Tero X, we subjected it to our standard battery of tests, typically conducted with commuter e-bikes, to assess its performance in everyday scenarios. However, we didn’t stop there; we wanted to push its limits on the trails. As such, we took it to our local cross-country (XC) track, renowned for hosting the state Nica XE race for the past two years. This track provided an ideal environment to truly test the Tero X’s capabilities.

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 is equipped with a high-capacity battery, the Specialized U2-710. With a capacity of 710Wh, this battery provides ample power to support your rides, whether it’s for commuting or exploring the great outdoors.

One of the standout features of the Tero X 5.0’s battery is its impressive range. Specialized states that the battery can offer a range of up to 80 miles, which is already a commendable distance. During our testing, we achieved an exceptional range of 73.75 miles on the Eco mode, maintaining an average speed of around 14.3 mph. This demonstrates that the Tero X 5.0 is capable of covering substantial distances on a single charge.

The range offered by the Tero X 5.0’s battery provides riders with peace of mind, especially those who may have concerns about range anxiety. With a range of 36 to 74 miles, you can confidently embark on long rides or commutes without worrying about running out of battery power. Whether you’re using the bike for daily commuting or exploring new trails, the Tero X 5.0’s battery range is more than sufficient for a full day of riding.
