The Tero X 5.0 features SRAM Code R brakes with 4-piston calipers, providing powerful and reliable stopping power. The 203mm rotor on the front and the 180mm rotor on the back ensure consistent and controlled braking performance in various riding conditions.

Specialized DRYTECH fenders with a width of 65mm are included with the Tero X 5.0. These fenders offer excellent coverage, protecting you and the bike from water and debris, ensuring a cleaner and more comfortable ride.

The Tero X 5.0 utilizes an aluminum frame, known for its durability, stiffness, and lightweight properties. The frame is designed to withstand the demands of off-road riding while maintaining a comfortable and agile riding position.

The SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain ensures smooth and reliable shifting performance. With a wide gear range and precise shifting, it enables you to tackle both steep climbs and fast descents with ease.

Taking the Tero X to the XC track was an exciting venture. The bike’s robust frame, coupled with the capable RockShox suspension, enabled it to handle the challenging terrain with confidence. The Specialized 2.0 or 2.2 motor provided ample power and torque, allowing riders to conquer steep climbs and technical sections without breaking a sweat. The Tero X’s agile handling and precise shifting, courtesy of the SRAM GX derailleur, contributed to a thrilling and enjoyable ride on the XC track.

Motor and Driving

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 features a full-power eMTB motor, the Specialized 2.0, which delivers an impressive 70 Newton meters of torque. However, if you opt for the higher-level Tero X model, you’ll enjoy the Specialized 2.2 motor, which is the same motor found on the Turbo Levo Carbon. These motors signify that the Tero X is a legitimate eMTB, built to tackle various terrains and demanding trails.

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 offers three different levels of pedal-assist (PAS) modes: Eco, Trail, and Turbo. Each mode provides varying levels of assistance to suit different riding conditions and preferences. Let’s explore how these PAS levels influenced the speed and performance during your test rides.

When you switched to Eco mode, you experienced a noticeable increase in average speed. With the added assistance from the motor, your average speed rose to 17 mph. This mode is ideal for conserving battery power and extending the range of your ride, while still providing a helpful boost to your pedaling efforts.

Moving on to Trail mode, you achieved even higher speeds. Completing the loop at an average speed of 19 mph, you enjoyed a faster and more exhilarating ride. The assistance level in Trail mode strikes a balance between efficiency and performance, making it well-suited for varied terrains and longer rides.

For an even more thrilling ride, you engaged Turbo mode. This mode provides the highest level of assistance, delivering maximum power and acceleration. As a result, you blazed through your fourth lap at an average speed of 22 mph, showcasing the Tero X 5.0’s impressive capabilities. Additionally, reaching a maximum speed of 28 mph demonstrated the bike’s ability to propel you swiftly and effortlessly.

During our testing, we conducted a hill test that simulated a challenging ascent, one that most people would avoid if they either lacked an e-bike or had common sense. This particular hill, although only a third of a mile in length, featured an average grade of 15 percent. This means that there were sections along the climb that were even steeper than that average grade.

This hill test highlighted the capability of the Turbo Tero X 5.0 to conquer challenging terrain. With the assistance of the e-bike’s motor, riders can confidently take on steep inclines that would otherwise be daunting or even impossible. The combination of the powerful motor and the rider’s pedaling effort allows for a seamless and efficient ascent, turning an arduous climb into an achievable feat.

By providing the necessary power and torque, the Turbo Tero X 5.0 empowers riders to explore and tackle routes that may have previously been off-limits. It opens up opportunities for riders to experience new trails, conquer difficult ascents, and enjoy the thrill of riding in demanding terrain.

One notable feature of the brake system was its impressive lack of squeaking. Even under intense and prolonged braking, there were no irritating squeaks that could potentially distract or detract from the riding experience. This is a testament to the high-quality construction and design of the brake system, ensuring smooth and noise-free operation.

Moreover, the brake system exhibited excellent modulation, allowing for precise control over braking power. This level of modulation is crucial when navigating technical descents, where riders need to carefully manage their speed and control to negotiate obstacles and maintain stability. The Tero X 5.0’s brake system delivered the perfect balance of stopping power and finesse, enabling riders to confidently maneuver down steep rollers and tackle challenging sections with ease.

Battery and Range

To thoroughly evaluate the capabilities of the Tero X, we subjected it to our standard battery of tests, typically conducted with commuter e-bikes, to assess its performance in everyday scenarios. However, we didn’t stop there; we wanted to push its limits on the trails. As such, we took it to our local cross-country (XC) track, renowned for hosting the state Nica XE race for the past two years. This track provided an ideal environment to truly test the Tero X’s capabilities.

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 is equipped with a high-capacity battery, the Specialized U2-710. With a capacity of 710Wh, this battery provides ample power to support your rides, whether it’s for commuting or exploring the great outdoors.

One of the standout features of the Tero X 5.0’s battery is its impressive range. Specialized states that the battery can offer a range of up to 80 miles, which is already a commendable distance. During our testing, we achieved an exceptional range of 73.75 miles on the Eco mode, maintaining an average speed of around 14.3 mph. This demonstrates that the Tero X 5.0 is capable of covering substantial distances on a single charge.

The range offered by the Tero X 5.0’s battery provides riders with peace of mind, especially those who may have concerns about range anxiety. With a range of 36 to 74 miles, you can confidently embark on long rides or commutes without worrying about running out of battery power. Whether you’re using the bike for daily commuting or exploring new trails, the Tero X 5.0’s battery range is more than sufficient for a full day of riding.

Conclusions

The Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 is not just your average e-bike – it’s a versatile machine that expands your possibilities and takes your riding experience to new heights.

As a commuter, the Tero X 5.0 excels. It goes beyond being merely competent and becomes a fantastic option for your daily journeys. Its strong build, comfortable design, and enjoyable ride quality make it a joy to commute to work every morning. Whether you’re navigating city streets or cruising along bike paths, the Tero X 5.0 ensures a reliable and pleasurable commuting experience.

One of the remarkable advantages of the Tero X 5.0 is its ability to seamlessly transition from the office to the trails. This e-bike opens up a whole range of adventure opportunities, enabling you to explore beyond your daily commute. With the Tero X 5.0, you don’t need multiple bikes for different purposes – it’s a versatile companion that can handle both urban commuting and off-road excursions.

By offering a single solution for various riding needs, the Tero X 5.0 streamlines your cycling experience and eliminates the need for multiple bikes. This versatility adds a level of convenience and practicality to your riding adventures.

  1. Thx for the Great review! I think you might have a typo in the specs. You list the motor for the Terro X 5.0 as 90 Nm torque but I think it’s only 70Nm torque.
