Pedego Avenue: Design and Build Quality

The packaging met my expectations, and the bike arrived in perfect condition. This also gives the overall impression of great quality. Brand components strike my eye all over the bike, including places you wouldn’t expect to see them on a less expensive bike. Almost everything, from the Herrmans grips to the Selle Italia saddle and the Suntour suspension fork to the Shimano hubs, is made by experienced component manufacturers.

However, upon closer investigation, several distinctions between the predecessors become obvious. The neatly integrated display in the stem, the enhanced suspension fork, and, most importantly, the optimized frame geometry stand out.

Many excellent components are insignificant on their own. It all boils down to interaction when it comes to a decent bike. Pedego Avenue can also do well in this category. Without exaggerating, it is never obvious that you are riding a pedelec for less than $2395. From the shifters, which are also from the Deore series and precisely travel through the 7 gears, to the hydraulic disc brakes, I felt entirely at ease on the Pedego Avenue in the test. Using the air system, you can precisely tune the suspension fork to your preferences and weight.

I’m especially impressed by the bike’s reasonable mudguards, baggage rack, and lighting system, which ensures that I can go on tour without worry. As if I wasn’t already gushing about the gear, the light also turns on automatically in the dark because the front light has a sensor.

If the trekking e-bike hasn’t convinced you by this stage in the test, Pedego Avenue will reach deep into the drawer to bring you a bike that will alleviate all of your concerns. 

One person’s happiness is another person’s sadness. Because without a smartphone, you can only manually unlock your bike in a more or less sophisticated manner. By the way, the app-controlled remote works flawlessly. The pairing with the bike also went smoothly, despite the insertion of a security code during the connecting process.

The castle’s unique feature is its modest alarm system. If the bike is locked, an alarm will ring if it is moved or even bumped into. The main alert sounds if Pedego Avenue is not left alone. The theft will then be over with a high degree of certainty. If not, you might still use the app to track your pedelec.

The Pedego Avenue, as one of the first low-cost one-size-fits-all e-mountain bikes, finally provides a comfortable seating posture for riders higher than 1.80 meters. At 1.85 meters tall, I am at ease and believe that there is still more room for growth. Be cautious if you are shorter than 1.80 meters. Actually, the Avenue is rather high.

Our fast-paced gravel and forest path tours are likewise well supported by the tires. The Pedego mountain bike tires are unquestionably ideal for off-road riding and retain proper ground contact. Even though it weighs a few kilograms, the Pedego Avenue is relatively maneuverable because of the mag rim size of 28 inches. Together with the mechanical disc brake, this is a wonderful pairing for somewhat sportier rides on unpaved routes.

Pedego Avenue: Motor and Battery

The torque sensor is also a positive aspect of the Pedego Avenue’s overall kit, which costs $2395. The Pedego Avenue is not for slow shifters in this situation, as the lower ratios are frequently required to get anywhere at all.

At 14 Ah, the battery is not very enormous, but it is also not particularly little. The range is largely influenced by the conditions and the power you put into the system. I was almost entirely on the high support level in the evening because I had already logged numerous test kilometers in my bones during our test. This means that the Pedego Avenue was able to travel 35 kilometers with 20% of its capacity remaining on various surfaces and a few peaks. However, with more personal work, I believe the system has a range of up to 70-80 km. The battery can be charged by removing it.

Pedego Avenue: Conclusions

The Pedego Avenue has a rather broad range of applications. The delivery of the e-bike was handled carefully, and it arrived undamaged. But it is preferable to hire a second person to help when unloading. Due to the Aventure.2’s incredible 34.9 kilogram weight, it is almost as much as some mopeds.

Aventon Aventure.2: Design and Build Quality

An electric bike that looks like snakeskin? To be quite honest, before delivery, I had some reservations regarding the design. I had some strange expectation that the bike would resemble one of those ugly carbon foils. Contrary to what I had anticipated, the unique pattern on the frame is really painted, printed, or applied in some other manner. This appears to be a nice design in any case. The Aventure.2 is likewise handled carefully and with additional considerations.

For instance, the frame is used to route several cables. Additionally, the enormous battery is elegantly fitted into the frame. The “mid-engine” is the first item that shocks people upon first glimpse. Considering that what appears to be a mid-engine is actually a dummy.

On closer inspection, this functionality makes sense, though. The fact that the control and controller are situated here has a practical advantage. I could also envision the design having useful motivations. After all, the sizable battery desires to remain secure within the frame. It definitely wouldn’t look nice to have a little bottom bracket there either. Thus, in my opinion, the dummy blends pretty nicely into the Aventure.2’s imposing form. Even if you have to first adjust to the concept of an e-bike with rear-wheel drive and a fake mid-motor.

Even though I’ve tested a lot of e-bikes, including some heavyweights, the Aventon performs significantly better than the Aventure.2 in my prior testing. The e-bike is comparable to my Hercules Prima GT moped that I owned when I was a teenager in terms of weight. In actuality, the Aventure.2 handles 35 kg of weight in a similar manner. Therefore, if you’re considering purchasing the Aventure.2, you should be aware that it rides more like a tiny moped than a bicycle, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Aventon Aventure.2: Motor and Battery

The Aventure.2 is as extravagant-looking in a good way as it is outfitted. A torque sensor that is more than suitably sized at 75 Nm is supplied to the rear-wheel drive by the enormous battery, which has a capacity of  Wh. This is a statement, regardless of the advancement of dual-battery systems or even rechargeable batteries that are ever larger. Aventon aims to make sure that the Aventure.2 can travel 60 – 100 km even when carrying typical weights.

It’s also important to observe the complete suspension. I always appreciate hefty front suspension forks with lockouts and 80 mm of travel. Additionally, the bike’s rear suspension is made very robustly and is specifically optimized for usage as an all-road vehicle.

180 mm hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro guarantee effective deceleration under any circumstance. With an Altus rear derailleur, a 8-speed gear system offers the ideal gear ratio. Here again, the cheap shifter is the only thing that irritates me. In my opinion, that is completely inappropriate for a bike like this, especially one that is fully loaded. However, this does not take away from the function and a suitable shifter would be fine here.

The saddle is another thing I enjoy. The fairly broad saddle doesn’t really go with the appearance of the e-bike, so at first I was a little dubious, but in the end I found it to be quite pleasant. In this case, Aventon also uses Selle Royal-branded products.

The comparatively large and clear display with a remote unit is another something I think is pretty great. The Bosch Intuvia system was presumably used as a reference in terms of design because of some similarities.

The fat 26″ and 4″ wide tires are the subject of every photograph, so I probably don’t need to mention them. Even though these rollers are the largest e-bike tires I’ve ever seen, I’m still doing it.

Overall, the Aventon is well furnished and achieves a decent balance between cost and performance. The Aventon finally belongs to the Aventure.2 and no longer the affordable e-bikes with a price of $1899.

The moment you step on the Aventon Aventure.2, you can sense its uniqueness. This is due to the fact that this e-bike leans more toward the motocross and moped directions than any other. As soon as you pull the vehicle out of the garage or parking area, you become aware of that. I purposefully omitted mentioning the bicycle cellar in this instance. Don’t try to carry this component into the bicycle cellar because doing so will be helpful to both your back and yourself. It won’t function. Simply said, the bike is too large, too heavy, and it didn’t even fit under my bike cover.

The Aventure.2 provides a comparable experience and an almost heavenly feel when driving. There isn’t much of a bicycle remaining here, as has been remarked a few times. This truth, though, is not always a bad thing. That somehow makes the Aventure.2 really enjoyable. The Aventon SUV makes you grin when the old city bike frequently caused you to frown. Depending on the air pressure, the Aventure.2 shrugs off high curbs, ignores train tracks entirely, and hardly registers cobblestones.

Where traditional E-MTBs stop, the Aventure.2 continues in off-road conditions like mud or even snow. It’s a real SUV e-bike, in fact. It’s possible to debate the logic or absurdity of such a concept from a variety of angles. However, the Aventure.2 actually drives and feels exactly like an off-road vehicle. In some cases or for some applications, an off-road vehicle is also required. The Aventon Aventure.2 even makes me think of the HNF XF3, but with lower-quality hardware. The HNF model, however, costs five times as much money.

The drive has a sizable torque of 75 Nm and is essentially powerful enough. Additionally, the rear-wheel drive competently handles grades and difficult sections. Since the Aventure.2 amplifies the pedal movements appropriately, at first I assumed the Aventon just had a pedal sensor. In actuality, a torque sensor is present in the Aventure.2. It appears that the controls are attempting to partially offset the weight of the bike. By the way, we’ve put together a guide for you that summarizes the differences between a drive with the more basic pedal sensor.

Due to the moped’s weight and brutish construction, the driving style appears natural to the sensor, if not a little sluggish and uninspiring. Since it’s not a typical e-bike, I don’t mind; it’s simply a matter of getting used to it. However, based on the shop’s photographs, who Expecting a trail bike to be enjoyable in the bike park is probably unrealistic. It’s more of a bike that virtually transports you on a journey around the globe that includes crossings through deserts. I am unable to foresee whether the parts will be so dependable, though.

I’m quite happy with the way the drive is being controlled. because of how precisely the bike reacts and how well-balanced the assistance is. However, this perception always relates to personal emotions and is influenced by personal choices. Contrary to other inexpensive e-bikes, this one does not have a speed control system and supports all levels of speed up to 45 km/h. Additionally, the stages’ interplay is suitably coordinated.

I can reassure anyone who might be put off by the throttle lever’s legality in the images. As is the case with the bikes from Rad Power Bikes, for example, this is simply a starting aid up to 6 km/h. Anyone who has read our test reports is aware of how impressed we are with the starting aids because they are just so wonderfully useful. This is also true of the Aventon Aventure.2, however in this case the acceleration is constrained by the heavy weight. However, a really helpful feature to get going at the following traffic signal.

Aventon Aventure.2: Conclusions

The Aventon Aventure.2 is a little pedal-powered motorcycle, not an e-bike. The Aventure.2 is a lot of fun in many ways thanks to its brute alignment, quick top speed of 45 km/h, and hefty weight. The Schwinn Marshall is a fully functional city e-bike that offers a carefree alternative all around. Its price of little under $1299 places it in the same category as well-known e-city bikes like VanMoof, Cowboy, or Tenways. In this report and in our video test, you can see how Schwinn Marshall fared in the test.

The Paderborn-based business attempts to emphasize the idea that Schwinn has been operating under the banner since the delivery. The goal is to offer a simple bike that begs to be utilized. Schwinn Marshall: Design and Build Quality

The Schwinn range now includes a new frame variation. In addition to the traditional step-through style, the Schwinn Marshall is now also offered in a diamond frame. Both models have the same features and cost the same – $1299 – without extras. The Schwinn Marshall’s base configuration includes hydraulic disc brakes, a Shimano Microshift 7-speed gearbox, and a Suntour suspension fork.

Therefore, it is challenging to criticize the Schwinn Marshall. The only unpleasant factor is the hefty weight of 25 kg. It gets sweaty trying to rapidly carry the bike into the flat or basement. To be fair, it must be noted that the majority of e-bikes are so heavy that very few of them even exceed the 20 kilogram restriction. In addition, it was challenging to use the thumb to operate the engine control unit.

The fundamental equipment is unquestionably above average for the price. The potent rear-wheel drive is made by the renowned company Bafang and is propelled by a 288 Wh battery. This is also admirable considering the price, which is slightly around $1299.

Additionally, the drive unit has a chic small display made by Bafang. There are 5 different support levels available here. These are pretty well-tuned, in contrast to many other cheap e-bikes, and each one supports varying levels up to the top speed of 32 km/h.

A pedal sensor controls the rear-wheel drive. This means that the Schwinn only supports you if you pedal, regardless of how hard you do so. However, the software is quite well-coordinated, and the driving experience is quite natural. There is also an Hi-Ten frame lock put in the works to make sure that you don’t immediately lose your bike.

The Schwinn Marshall does exceptionally well overall in the test. The frame is polished quite nicely, and the cables are neatly put inside. For instance, welding seams are painstakingly smoothed down such that they are no longer visible as such.

Regardless of whether you choose the black or white hue, the Schwinn Marshall is very unspectacular from the outside but is nonetheless contemporary. On the other hand, you will find a good selection if you look at the built-in components. For instance, the company from Paderborn added the well-liked JAK 7 disc brakes, which are common on hiking e-bikes. They do, after all, function dependably, and during our test, they consistently maintained a tight grip – even in the rain. Additionally tested, the Shimano Altus derailleur is likewise utilized on the Schwinn Marshall. There, it offers a total of 7 speeds, which, regardless of driving style, is more than enough for daily metropolitan life.

Schwinn Marshall: Motor and Driving

On the Schwinn Marshall, you can sit pretty relaxedly. In my perspective, the bike is primarily designed for city use, particularly in light of the useful GPS. But it’s also the ideal bike for a lazy Sunday morning trip to the nearby village to pick up some bread rolls. The Schwinn inexplicably urges you to stroll along its wheels, kind of like a lovely promenade or a famous pedestrian area.

The Schwinn Marshall is the ideal vehicle for spending hours traveling the world on dykes or cycling paths, as I myself am from North Rhine-Westphalia and frequently visit the Netherlands as a vacation destination. It just feels wonderfully cozy and has a little of the laid-back appeal of a traditional Dutch bike. With the minor exception, though, that the Schwinn is extremely relaxing and you are not required to operate a 25 kg heavy steel monster with three gears while standing upright.

You sit quite erect on the e-bike, as can be seen in the images of the Schwinn Marshall. Despite not having a very sporty appearance, it is incredibly comfortable, which is further helped by the lovely handles. But don’t be fooled by appearances; the Bafang motor propels you onward. The Schwinn drives enthusiastically despite having “limited” torque, and we made light work of the 32 km/h mark before the engine shut out. Additionally, we primarily used the lowest of the five support levels while driving. Knowing that you still have power reserves in case you ever need them is a pleasant sensation. For instance, we easily overcame steep slopes just pressing a button without even shifting gears. That was a lot of fun.

The bike also has contemporary, strong hydraulic disc brakes that are simple to operate and have excellent traction. The suspension fork also adds to overall comfort, makes trips into the countryside enjoyable, and effectively absorbs urban potholes. However, due of the little flex in the stanchions of the suspension fork in this instance, the cost is clearly visible. However, this is more common and the usual with less expensive versions.

With the Shimano shifters, the circuit responds fast, consistently, and with ease. The drive is ready for any situation and has enough power even on climbs with a 45 Newton meter torque.

The handles are likewise very well constructed and most likely leather. Additionally adjustable, the stem makes it simple to match the stem to the appropriate seating position.

The Schwinn Marshall uses flat, narrow tires, like the majority of city and e-trekking bikes. On paved surfaces, this demonstrated its strength, and we always had a firm hold. Of course, to push the pedelec to its limits, we also tried it on trails through the woods. The bike performed admirably in this area as well, with the suspension fork in particular absorbing some jolts. However, the fact that Schwinn dislikes such surfaces may not come as a surprise. On a tour, though, you won’t have to worry about your bike breaking down if you have to travel across rough terrain.

Schwinn Marshall: Battery and Range

Additionally, there are no sacrifices with the Schwinn Marshall’s battery life. The bike includes a large 288 watt-hour battery from the Paderborn business, which is unique for a bike in this price category. With the energy, we were also able to pedal without motor assistance for about 50 kilometers, which was a decent daily range and incidentally worked well. Because the e-bike handles like a bicycle even without a motor, and the pedal resistance can be customized to your needs with the aid of the gear change.

Every city dweller and commuter in the nation should be able to get through the day, if not even the week with 50 kilometers. You can charge it overnight in your own home or at work because the battery can easily be taken out. Everything is therefore sensible.

We must point you, too, that the Schwinn advertises a maximum range of 65 kilometers. We weren’t able to reach this figure, albeit that’s not rare. While our test sample was still a pre-series model, there are a number of variables that can affect the range, including the weather, road conditions, the driver’s physical condition, and driving technique.

Finding the best e-bike can take weeks of research and listening to various perspectives. If you don’t want to travel as far, you should read on right away. Because that is exactly what the Schwinn Marshall offers.

Lectric XP Trike: What Can You Expect From Inexpensive E-Bike?

With good cause, Lectric is one of the most well-known electric bike brands in the United States. When it comes to finding the ideal balance between functionality, affordability, and performance, the company always appears to hit the mark. In order to further improve the ownership experience, the company continually pays attention to what its customers are saying and releases new models and upgrades to its existing model line.

Lectric eBikes, an electric bike manufacturer based in Phoenix, has consistently led the electric bike market in terms of pricing. The business recently revealed that it is developing an electric trike that will be sold for an unbelievable cheap price. The Lectric XP Trike appears to be a new model in the XP range, according to badges on the three-wheeler.

Because of this, when I read in an Electrek article that Lectric was developing an electric tricycle with a utility-focused design, I knew I had to look into it further to see what I could find out. In fact, Levi Conlow, CEO of Lectric, shared a picture of the electric tricycle prototype on Facebook in the Lectric XP Ebike Owners Group. He writes in the post: “Hello, people! I’ve been working on a tricycle, and it’s finally finished enough for me to provide you a sneak peek! On Friday, January 13, the Lectric team will have additional specs to give.”

The Lectric XP Trike is very intriguing because it appears to offer much more than most other trikes, not simply because of its pricing.

For instance, the Lectric XP Trike employs a more advanced drivetrain for front wheel drive as opposed to a front hub motor. It has a differential axle with a centrally located motor that drives both rear wheels. It utilizes a distinctive engine that comprises a hub motor situated in the middle that is chained to an axle that drives both rear wheels. Additionally, said axle has a differential, which enables it to turn steadily.

The drive technique appears to have been a hub motor placed as a mid-drive motor, which is an uncommon but not entirely unusual one. It was made popular by the StokeMonkey, a highly regarded cargo e-bike system, and enables an affordable hub motor to perform like a significantly more expensive mid-drive motor.

Additionally, the Lectric XP Trike has hydraulic disc brakes in the front and back, which are a more expensive type of brake with better performance and less maintenance requirements.

True to Lectric’s reputation for absurdly low costs, the ultra-affordable e-trike is a great value. The Lectric XP Lite, the company’s most cheap e-bike, is a foldable e-bike with value that hasn’t been matched in the industry.

The company’s Lectric XP 3.0 e-bike, dual-passenger e-bike that outperforms all the other utility e-bikes we’ve seen thus far, follows the same logic.

Levi did not mention the voltage when he advertised the battery’s 14Ah capacity. The battery would have a healthy 672 Wh if it matches the 48V batteries in all of Lectric’s previous e-bikes. A foldable frame and hydraulic disc brakes with the rear brake mounted on the axle next to the drive gear are further features. Even while all of these features are great, the pricing is undoubtedly the biggest surprise. Lectric, however, significantly undercuts this at a price of just $1,499, whereas other electric trikes like the RadTrike will cost you close to $2,500.

The Åik, which has many configuration options, is CAKE’s entry into the pedal-assisted e-bike market.

At CES 2023, CAKE has showcased its newest heavy-duty electric two-wheeler. The CAKE Åik, however, is an electric bicycle with pedals, unlike the company’s electric motorbikes and scooters that came before it. However, don’t assume that this e-bike isn’t up for any challenging job.

Many of you who enjoy riding electric two-wheelers must be familiar with CAKE. I don’t mean the pastry by the name CAKE; I mean the Swedish producer of electric motorcycles. The company has produced what are regarded as lightweight electric motorcycles and mopeds during the past few years.

The CAKE Åik shares a similar design with the CAKE Ösa electric motorcycle, whose extremely modular work platform has earned it the moniker “workbench on wheels.” And similar to the SA, I’ll have to search around my keyboard each time to type this model.

The Ösa is a powerful electric off-roader that resembles a cross between a mountain bike and a motocross cycle, but in electric form. Other notable versions include the sa, a tough and practical bike that doubles as a workbench. The Swedish manufacturer has lately joined the beginner-friendly category with a new pedal-assisted electric bicycle dubbed the ik, adding to its already excellent selection of electric two-wheelers. Since “large and heavy load” is a vague translation of the name “Åik,” you may conclude that this electric two-wheeler can handle such a weight.

Although the Åik is a street-legal electric bicycle, it is unlike any other e-bike we have reviewed. That’s because it was designed for demanding utility and work tasks.

The ultra-modular aluminum frame is made to suit a variety of utilitarian accessories. With a gross vehicle weight rating of 441 lbs, the bike is outstanding (200 kg). There are still 363 lbs (165 kg) of storage space available after deducting the bike’s weight of 78 lb (35.5 kg) and a single battery.

You would be correct, and the Åik has the evidence to support it. You see, with 20 kg up front and 60 kilograms on the back, the Åik has a carrying capacity of about 80 kilograms. The modular aluminum frame may be equipped with a dizzying number of racks, bags, trailers, baskets, and even a passenger seat. Additionally, it has a total battery capacity of 2.25 kWh and can be configured with up to three lockable 750Wh batteries for a range of up to 224 miles.

A 1,000W peak mid-drive motor with a nominal rating of 500W and a 100 Nm torque rating is used in the drivetrain. Although it is compatible with belt drives, it is paired with a chain drive. A belt drive is depicted in every press image, and it appears to be the nicer option.

The power from the motor is transferred via the belt and chain drives into an Enviolo Extreme CVP hub, which serves as a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Riders can benefit from the effortless shifting and inexpensive maintenance of a belt drive while using it because it has automated shifting. Additionally, it implies that the bike can change gears while stationary, which is advantageous for freight e-bikes that tote big loads.

The e-bike can produce 100 Nm of torque regardless of trim level, enabling it to start rolling under a heavy load. Support for the Enviolo Extreme CVP hub gearbox is offered for perfect automated shifting. The bike is stopped using four-piston hydraulic disc brakes on both the front and back wheels. The electric bike does not have onboard suspension, but it does have large 20 x 3-inch tires that will absorb any jolts.

The CAKE Åik has a telematics unit for connectivity that is compatible with the Cake App, Cake Fleet Management App, and external API integration. It has GPS, Bluetooth, and GSM connections. A GPS-activated alarm and tracking system, security screws for both wheels, and an anti-theft seat clamp help keep the bike yours and prevent it from being stolen.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the Åik is a member of CAKE’s Work range and is therefore furnished with features designed to make using the bike for professional purposes more convenient. It has a telematics device with GPS, Bluetooth, and GSM capabilities that is compatible with the CAKE App and CAKE Fleet Management App. The Åik is currently available for presale with prices starting at $6,470 and is expected to start shipping in May 2023.
