It will be offered for sale through the IndieGoGo crowdfunding portal for $1,600 (about 10,700 yuan).

The e-bike resembles a motorbike in appearance because to its enormous 26-inch all-terrain tires that are 4 inches thick. ENGWE X26: Design and Build Quality

The new all-terrain e-bike Engwe X26 should have no restrictions while riding in difficult terrain, the maker claims in a statement on its own website, which has until now largely concentrated on folding e-bikes.

The X26 is designed for every sort of terrain, in contrast to many other e-bikes on the market. It is made to provide you both an off-road and comfortable ride in the city. It can be used on mud, snow, sand, and gravel, which is something that not many e-bikes can.

Specialist in electric scooters, NIU embarks on the adventure of trendy scooters with a very first model called KQi3. 

Niu Technologies, also known as NIU, is a Chinese company founded in 2014 that quickly caught on with investors — raising $125 million across multiple investment rounds. In China and Europe, the brand is best known for its electric scooters.

NIU has a catalog of around ten trendy two-wheelers but is also eyeing the micro-mobility market through electric scooters. This is why the group launched its very first model on Indiegogo on July 13, 2021: the NIU KQi3, available in Sport and Pro versions.

We tested for more than a week during the Pro version. What does it have in the belly at the price of $699? Here is our opinion.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Design

The NIU KQi3 Pro has the merit of appealing at first sight. What’s the reason? Its size. And more precisely its a large deck with a width of 17.5 cm and a length of 50 centimeters (flat part included, curved parts excluded). Far from the compact format, the NIU KQi3 is massive, the NIU KQi3 is clumsy. It is difficult to miss it as it imposes itself, for better or for worse.

Let’s start with the best: this electric scooter has the merit of giving you the choice to position your feet. Thanks to its large deck, you can place them perpendicularly – as on many models – but also side by side without your ripatons protruding from the edges – I wear a 41 and a half. What is pleasant is that we do not think where to put our feet: there will always be room to welcome them.

In fact, the NIU KQi3 Pro makes me want to give it the title of “SUV of electric scooters“, a bit like the Canyon Precede: ON on a bicycle scale. Its muscular size and its robust appearance bring a certain feeling of security once at the controls of the machine, which tends to reassure you. For stressed people like me on the handlebars of a scooter, this is a good point.

More concretely, the NIU KQi3 measures 1173 x 1202 x 541.5 mm when unfolded, and drops to 1173 x 504 x 541.5 mm when folded. You will have understood this with regard to the changes observed: only the height changes. To do this, a two-step folding system has been installed at the base of the steering column, to fold it down and the handlebars.

A small hook at the back of the scooter then allows you to fix everything. Simple and efficient. Alas, the handles are neither foldable nor foldable. It is always less practical to store your model in a car trunk for example, or in a bar terrace when your machine is placed on the ground. It is important to point this out.

Also be aware that it is impossible to adjust the height of the handlebars. The NIU KQi3 therefore does not seek to adapt to the maximum number of users, as the E-Twow Booster S+ Premium 2020 could do. From the height of my seventy-six meter, I found the height adapted to my size.

More generally, the NIU KQi3 Pro benefits from a sleek style that is relatively pleasing to the eye. Admittedly, the unsightly welds between the deck and the stem, but also on the rear chainstays, could have been avoided (especially at $699). But on the whole, the result remains more than correct.

A total of 7 reflectors have been installed to improve your visibility to other road users: one below the headlight, two on the sides of the steering column and two others on each side of the wheels. The lights, on the other hand, benefit from LED technology. The one at the rear lights up when you brake to warn people behind you. Always good to take.

The one at the front takes up the stylistic paw of NIU with a round shape, its trademark. At the rear, the light adopts a more conventional rectangular format. A few brake cables appear here and there, but quickly disappear under the handlebars. Nothing too embarrassing, in short.

Still at the rear, a mudguard protects you from splashes, and cannot be used as a manual brake – we asked ourselves the question for a time, the brand confirmed to us that it was not. The structure also quickly separated from the main deck, revealing internal cables. Nothing reassuring. On the other hand, we were assured that the transport of the vehicle was the cause: a more solid packaging should be used for the next deliveries.

For its part, the handlebar hosts in its center a beautiful screen on which we will focus in the rest of this test. The brake handles are placed at a good distance: with my small hands, I never had a problem grabbing them and braking. Same song on the side of the mechanical bell, fixed on the left of the handlebars.

NIU has an eye for detail and even installed a kind of small front visor to provide protection to the screen. I still doubt its usefulness, but why not. The handles finally benefit from slight bumpy lines and a rather soft coating that make the grip very pleasant.

The big downside of the NIU KQi3 Pro remains its weight: 20 kilos. It is heavier than some electric bikes, but also and especially other competitors. For example, the Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro 2 sold for 500 euros weighs 14.5 kilos, while the E-Twow Booster S+ Premium 2020 drops to 10.9 kilos.

Fortunately, the two-wheeler enjoys good balance and does not tend to tip back and forth due to any excess weight. This allows it to be carried at arm’s length by taking it well in the middle of the steering column. Nevertheless, 20 kilos, it weighs: I therefore advise you to have a lift at home and at work to transport it easily. For the train or the metro, the matter is complicated.

Finally, note that the NIU KQi3 is capable of supporting a user of 100 kilos maximum, and that an IP54 certification protects it from dust deposits and water splashes. It is therefore not suitable for severe weather and too deep puddles. A small kickstand also keeps it straight once the scooter is “parked”.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Application and Screen

The screen of the NIU KQi3 is located in the middle of the handlebars and benefits from a beautiful surface which is unfortunately not exploited enough. Indeed, only the speed and the Bluetooth connectivity are displayed. Autonomy is represented by five round icons, which disappear over the kilometers traveled.

With such a size, this slab could have largely indicated more information, such as the exact remaining autonomy in digital figures, the time or even the mileage. NIU preferred to play the minimalism card and did not want to flood its screen with elements to facilitate its visibility and understanding. It is his choice, but a questionable choice in our eyes.

Visibility, precisely, was not good: in direct sunlight, I happened to squint several times to distinguish my speed of the moment. However, NIU assured us that it would improve the brightness on the final version to distinguish the information displayed.

Also, this screen does not offer a huge margin of maneuver in terms of interactivity. The system is certainly very simple to understand and use, but relatively limited.

A single button is used to manage all the configurations: turn the screen off and on, activate a “full headlight” mode, switch from km/h to mph, switch to on mode (five presses), configure the E-SAVE mode (limited to 15 km/h), and that’s it. It is impossible, for example, to configure the other driving modes directly from the screen. When Xiaomi scooters allow it.

To do this, it is necessary to go through the NIU mobile application, which is also not without constraint: when creating your NIU account and when pairing your phone with the scooter in Bluetooth, a video tutorial is imposed on you. In short, why not. This can be a good booster shot.

Then, it is necessary to travel 500 meters at a maximum of 15 km/h to unlock the sport mode and the 25 km/h. Beyond the frustration generated, the usefulness of this process is to be proven. But again, why not. Be careful though: remember to imperatively update your scooter from the first ignition.

Without this update, you will be constantly stuck at 15 km/h despite the tutorial viewed and the first 500 meters traveled at 15 km/h. I had the bitter experience of it. What’s the solution? Unpair your phone, pair it again, launch the update… then redo the tutorial and the 500 meters at 15 km/h. After that, the scooter finally lets go of the horses.

For its part, the mobile application has the merit of being easy to handle and understand. At the top, the main interface shows your range and remaining battery percentage. A “ Lock ” button allows you to lock the electric scooter when it is on. At the bottom, two tiles on “ Driving Reports ” and “ Ride Statistics ” overlap.

At the bottom, in the center, a “Go” button directs you to a map, which overlooks a speedometer, the battery level, the remaining autonomy, your mileage, the driving time, the average speed or even the elevation and slope. So much information that will appear along your route.

At the very bottom, on the right, a “Me” option gives you access to the profile of the scooter, from which you can manage the updates, the degree of energy recovery (low, medium and high), the personalized mode (allows you to limit your speed to the nearest km/h) and the speed unit (km/h or mph) displayed.

Overall, the software experience is simple and effective. NIU does not get lost in a maze of settings and sub-settings, and does not overdo it in the image of its screen. On the other hand, some errors nestle in the driving reports. Each report indicates the travel times, which are wrong here.

For a trip between my home and my place of work made between approximately 1:20 p.m. and 1:40 p.m., the application expects a 12:12 a.m. – 12:41 a.m. One, the time of my departure is not good. And two, NIU considers us in the middle of the night, not in the middle of the day.

Also, during the update and the tutorial, I noticed some spelling mistakes and texts not translated into French. It’s just an update story.

All this summary is all well and good when reading it: because the connectivity still needs to work between your mobile application and the electric scooter. Alas, it has most of the time buggy. It was enough to let the scooter sleep peacefully overnight, for the pairing between my mobile device and the vehicle to fail.

To overcome this problem, I had to uninstall the application, reinstall it… and this as soon as the problem arose again. What a frustration not to be able to consult its exact autonomy, or even to change the intensity of the regenerative braking. Luckily, NIU assured us that this pre-release build was going to be patched for the official release.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Motor and Power

Let’s make it clear from the start: the NIU KQi3 is a powerful and responsive electric scooter, despite its size and its weight of 20 kilos. A great surprise. With its 350W motor built in-house, the machine has excellent acceleration and responsive pick-up that allows you to pass slower cyclists than you with ease.

In short, it is a great ally in town. On intermediate hills, your speedometer remains stuck at 25 km/h. It therefore has no difficulty in climbing positive elevations, nor in braving strong gusts of headwind.

The small throttle lever is easily manipulated to control its pace at a lower level. And if you don’t want to reach 25 km/h, you can always use the application to curb your two-wheeler.

The NIU KQi3 also manages to weave its way between cars. Admittedly, other more compact scooters do better than it, but on several occasions I have crossed a narrow stretch of road in the middle of cars without this giving me a problem.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Balance and Comfort

Inevitably, without any suspension, driving comfort takes a hit. Certainly, its large wheels absorb a minimum of the roughness of the road, but the weight of the model also counterbalances everything. In short: you will feel your whole body vibrate when rolling on cobblestones. Even small irregularities in the pavement are not pleasant.

Nevertheless, due to its size and large deck, the NIU KQi3 Pro remains pleasant to use once standing on it. However, pay attention to balance: I advise you not to adjust your glasses, put your cap back on or scratch your nose by removing one hand from the handlebars, at the risk of feeling unbalanced. The steering column has a tendency to shake.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Brakes

With front and rear disc brakes, the NIU KQi3 Pro offers you excellent braking phases. The left lever is connected to the rear brake: you might think that it is not biting enough at first, but it is in fact progressive and effective in urgent situations. He actually saved me on several occasions, without systematically blocking the wheel.

The one at the front is almost too biting: I advise you to use it with extreme caution to avoid any “sun”. Nevertheless, it is better to be well equipped with brakes than not enough: in cities, or in dense areas, having good brakes is perhaps one of the elements, if not the element, the more important to ensure your safety.

Problem: a new anomaly that appeared after ten days broke the mood. The rear brake simply let go and the cable no longer exerted any resistance when pressing the lever. 

During my test, another unpleasant surprise gradually appeared: phantom braking, exclusively during the regenerative braking phase. Personally, I preferred to use the so-called medium regenerative braking, which seems to me to be a good compromise for stopping at a red light without braking and rushing too much.

On this point, the system made no false note. But for some reason, powerful phantom braking occurred several times during my experience. When stopping to accelerate, and as the regenerative braking kicks in, the electric scooter suddenly brakes for half a second.

This defect is confusing, surprising and dangerous at the same time. I counted about 7 of them over about fifty kilometers covered. It is imperative that NIU corrects this anomaly at the risk of attracting the ire of its users.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Headlights

Two light intensities are available for the headlight. And the least we can say is that the most powerful illuminates your path. The NIU KGi3 Pro offers extremely powerful lights which, in addition to improving your visibility to other users, perfectly illuminate your field of vision.

It is also possible to adjust the angle of the headlight according to your preference. On this point, this electric scooter is faultless.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Battery

The Pro version of the NIU KGi3 Pro benefits from the longest range in the range: 50 kilometers on paper, thanks to a 486 Wh battery. In practice, this radius of action was almost reached at the end of the test. My journeys have indeed allowed me to travel up to 47.5 kilometers. At the very end, the scooter slightly lost acceleration power. The 25 km / h, they were still relevant.

In fact, the NIU KGi3 Pro therefore offers very good autonomy: over a week of face-to-face work, I had to recharge it only on Thursday to leave the next day. Note that I am 176 centimeters tall and weigh 63 kilos, and my rather gentle and careful driving has surely saved me a few battery percentages.

This generous autonomy is therefore not restrictive, and in a way offsets the 6 hours of recharging required. It’s long. I advise you to plug in your scooter in the morning at the office, or at night at home.

The only small downside that I would like to note concerns the sound alert emitted by the scooter when the battery approaches zero. The machine starts beeping. To beep a lot. Every 10 seconds or so, which becomes very annoying after a while. Again, NIU has a small fix to deploy.

NIU KGi3 Pro: Conclusions

Defective rear brake after 10 days of use, dangerous phantom braking, Bluetooth connectivity (and therefore unusable application) in the cabbage, fragile rear mudguard: the NIU KQi3 Pro accumulates failures, at least in its pre-launch version. At all costs, NIU must correct the situation and deploy patches. Without all these flaws, the final grade would probably have risen to 7 or 8. We will test the scooter again when it comes out to check whether NIU keeps its promises or not.

It’s a shame, because this electric scooter could be excellent without these faults: certainly heavy (20 kilos) by design and size, the machine embodies robustness and safety. With it, it’s the assurance of feeling serene in all circumstances thanks to excellent brakes (when they walk) and an appreciated explosiveness.

Its ultra-bright lights will guide you through the night, when the range of around 50 kilometers offers plenty of room to maneuver around town. Good luck on the other hand to move it at arm’s length, despite a well-balanced weight. The NIU KQi3 Pro could be an excellent ally in an urban environment: it’s up to NIU to prove it to us.

NIU KQi3 Pro: Price and Where to buy cheaper? 

The NIU KQi3 Pro is available on Indiegogo at a price of $699 including tax, against $599 for the Sport version. An Early Bird offer in limited availability drops their price to 441 and 391 euros, respectively.

We will not fail to test a final version on the day of its release: this test is potentially brought to evolve according to the correction of the noted defects.

Skarper, from the London start-up of the same name, is an innovative and novel solution for converting a conventional bicycle into an e-bike. To do this, the motor is simply attached to the rear wheel for “clipping”, which, according to the manufacturer, works with a “click”. With the unique and patent-protected disc brake drive system, the power is then transmitted to the brake disc on the rear wheel.

Before the motor can be used, the manufacturer’s own DiskDrive disc must be mounted on the rear wheel. The motor then uses this for propulsion. According to the manufacturer, the drive develops a torque of up to 50 Nm from 250 watts of power. The maximum speed is 32 km/h, although this can also be restricted to 25 km/h depending on the legal situation.

Thanks to a series of sensors and control algorithms, the motor reacts intelligently to the terrain and provides the precise support, according to Skarper. There are three modes to choose from: Eco, Standard and Turbo. Both the mode selection and other information such as the battery level and Bluetooth connectivity can be viewed and adjusted via smart buttons and lights on the device.

Skarper offers a clip-on motor and battery

The battery is also integrated in Skarper’s easily attachable and detachable drive unit. According to the manufacturer, with a capacity of 202 Wh, a range of up to 60 km should be possible. Of course, this should depend heavily on the weight of the bike and rider and other factors. The charging time is given as 2.5 hours, with a range of around 15 to 20 km in the “tank” after just 30 minutes. The weight of the Skarper disc brake drive system is given as 3 kg plus 300 g for the DiskDrive disc.

The Skarper drive is scheduled to hit the market in 2023. However, it should be possible to take pre-orders soon.

The start-up Skarper was able to rely on prominent supporters during the development. ADO A26: Design

The ADO A26 arrives well packaged in a standard bike box via DPD. Set up is relatively quick and easy. Only the handlebars, front wheel, pedals and front light have to be screwed on. However, the enclosed tool is not necessarily recommended.

Screwed together, the A26 actually gives a passable picture. The frame is cleanly finished and the elegant black gives a high-quality impression. In addition, a mobile phone holder, the charger and a partly well-translated German operating manual are included.

On closer inspection and an extensive test ride, however, the inexpensive e-bike is only partially convincing. The first thing that strikes you is that the suspension fork is well intentioned, but unfortunately almost useless.

Because the stanchions already have a lot of play from the start. With each rebound, there is also a very unpleasant loud bang. That’s not pleasant in everyday city life, especially not on uneven slopes.

ADO A26: Drive

As is typical for the Far East, the support levels do not affect the power of the support, but rather the speed. The 25 km/h final speed can therefore only be reached in the third and at the same time highest level.

The control of the motor also feels quite good here, only in high gears and at high speeds the drive is a bit sluggish when starting again. The display, on the other hand, is easy to read and offers all important driving values. Operation with three buttons is self-explanatory.

ADO A26: Brakes

Here the ADO A26 scores with a great feature. Because the brake levers interrupt the support when braking. This is even visible on the display with a small symbol. However, the rest of the braking system has plenty of room for improvement.

Mechanical disc brakes are installed. However, its performance is not much better than the wacky V-brakes from grandpa’s old shopping bike. You can still stop with it.

The gears do what they should for such a cheap bike and do their job reliably. No more and no less.

The rear derailleur comes from Shimano, but does not belong to any group and is from the absolute entry-level category. Exceptional performance should not be expected here either.

ADO A26: Seating position

As a person who is around 1.80m tall, I sit quite sportily on the ADO A26. For me, the e-bike is easy to ride. However, I would not recommend it from 1.85m upwards. The saddle is surprisingly comfortable. The handles have a small contact surface. Unfortunately, after two kilometers, they are already turning back and forth on the handlebars and no longer have a proper grip.

The A26 is marketed as an MTB. In no way do I see it as such. Due to the narrow handlebars and the sporty position, I would rather put it in the city/urban e-bike category. The ADO feels much better here than off-road.

ADO A26: Additional equipment

A nice gadget is the USB socket on the handlebar. Anyone who navigates a lot with their smartphone and is constantly annoyed in the sunshine because the battery runs out quickly will be happy with this. When opening the rubber lip seal, however, you should allow a few seconds. This is definitely associated with some fumbling.

Personally, I also like the built-in horn. It’s useful, but you probably shouldn’t use it to honk the police off the road because it’s not licensed. The front light is bright enough and is powered by the battery. The rear light, on the other hand, is battery operated. In my case, however, it did not survive the transport unscathed. A power supply from the battery would also be desirable here.

A throttle grip is also installed. However, due to the missing function, ADO could have saved itself. The A26 also comes with folding pedals. Well intentioned, but I don’t quite understand the meaning and purpose behind it either.

ADO A26: Conclusion

The ADO A26 is inexpensive, but also cheap in some areas. The brake levers feel like wet toast, the control unit with support, light and horn seems a bit fragmented. In my opinion, the visually good-looking bike lacks an overall concept. However, if you can live with the weaknesses, you get a chic and maneuverable e-bike with a powerful motor and a lot of battery capacity for the money. Alternatives in the cheap segment are, for example, the folding bike from Nakxus or the Eleglide F1.

Xiaomi Himo C20: Unboxing

I want to note right away that the box is not small and picking it up on your own will be problematic. Even if you have a car, you will have to sweat a little to fit it into the salon.

The box is standard for most electric vehicles and on the front you can see a picture of a bicycle and the name of the model Himo C20.

Inside the box, everything was well-packed and came to me without any damage. Together with the bike itself, another set of delivery came – these are plastic wings with mounts.

I also found a massive power supply with a Chinese plug, two sets of keys for removing the battery and documents for an electric bike with a guarantee.

Xiaomi Himo C20: Design and Performance

The appearance of the bike is unremarkable and very similar to a regular standard city bike.

Compared to the previous Xiaomi Himo V1 model, which had very small dimensions, the new generation Himo C20 is already more adult and does not look like a kid.

The first thing you can notice is the size of the wheels, it has grown and become 20 inches, like the BMX. And the dimensions themselves are very similar to BMX bicycles – 1470 x 610 x 106 mm and weighing 21.1 kg, taking into account the battery itself.

The frame itself is made of durable and reliable aluminum alloy. Due to this, the maximum load of the rider will be up to 100 kg.

The central fork of the bike has a more elongated oblate shape so that the built-in battery blends well in the design.

Due to the wide steering wheel and seat height adjustment – the landing is quite pleasant and ideal. Despite its compact appearance – even an adult with a height of up to 190 cm will be comfortable to sit.

Like the previous Himo V1 model, the new Xiaomi Himo C20 has a similar design for folding the steering wheel and pedals. This will facilitate transportation in the trunk of your car.

On the central main frame there is a battery compartment and there is a keyhole to get the battery out. A convenient solution, since you do not need to take the whole bike home to charge only the battery.

On the battery itself there is a button for determining the charge level and four indicators. There is also a connector for charging the battery itself. The battery weight is 2.5 kg.

The bike’s electric motor is located on the rear wheel with a power of 250 watts – this is a brushless motor. There are also six Shimano sprockets on the rear wheel, which allows you to ride your bike manually using the pedals.

The latter is a convenient solution, since now you can quickly move both in a straight line and uphill. If you recall the previous generation of Himo V1 with one gear – it was a significant minus, since the maximum speed could be reached no higher than 12 km per hour.

Well, I found a steering wheel – a relay for shifting gears, a classic bell, brake handles. In addition, the bike received disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels and the brakes work quite efficiently.

There is also a small screen on which you can see the current speed, what distance is traveled, the battery level and operating modes.

There are three modes – eco, medium and high. In the latter mode, the speed of the bike can reach up to 25 km per hour. As for a city bike, more speed is not required, but if you need more speed, you can help to twist your own legs.

In the first eco mode, the maximum speed is 12-14 km per hour, but in this mode, the bike can travel up to 80 km. With heavy loads or climbs, the distance of the path will decrease to 50 or even 40 km.

The average energy consumption is 0.72 kWh per 100 km. The battery capacity is 10 Ah and a full charge will be about 5-6 hours.

The handle on the steering wheel works on the principle of a moped, it is responsive and not tight with a small stroke.

To illuminate the road in the dark, the LED flashlight on the front of the Xiaomi Himo C20 bike will help. A red flashlight is installed on the back side under the seat and does not perform the stop signal function, it is turned on by a regular button on the case. Both flashlights are not frame elements and at any time you can replace it with something more powerful.

The seat is not wide, but quite comfortable for moving around city streets. The seat adjustment is large and even with a height of 190 cm you can fit on a bicycle. If you get the seat out of the groove, you can see a small bonus – a bicycle pump. It will always be with you and you can pump the wheel at any time.

It is worth noting that the bike received waterproof IPX5 standard – this means that all elements are protected from water or rain.

I have no questions regarding driving characteristics, even despite the small size of the wheels – landing on Himo C20 is convenient and comfortable. From the side you don’t look strange, as it was on the Himo V1 model, where the wheels were half as much.

To start moving on a bike you need to start off like on a regular bike. From the spot, the electric motor is not lucky and it is activated when you reach a speed of 5 km per hour.

Xiaomi Himo C20: Conclusions and Reviews

The new generation of Xiaomi Himo C20 electric bike has received a number of advantages compared to the previous generation. The first is the size of the wheels – it has become twice as large and at the same time, the ride on an uneven surface has become softer and more enjoyable in driving.

Also added six speeds from the company SHIMANO, which will allow you to quickly move uphill or in a straight section.

In general, the Xiaomi Himo C20 electric bike is ideal for small city streets and due to its small size it will be easy to combine in a small city apartment.

All elements are made with high quality, pressing buttons or shifting gears are perfectly fitted.

Driving and cycling will bring you delight in emotions. If you need a reliable and modern electric vehicle for short distances, then Himo C20 would be the perfect choice.

Segway makes excellent e-scooters. But the E45D is a dip in the toilet. We show which electric scooters offer a lot more for the same money.

There are a lot of really good e-scooters out there. First place is the Segway Ninebot G30D II Max, which is the successor to the Segway Ninebot Max G30D. What we particularly like about the G30D II is its long range, the great workmanship, the good engine and the driving experience. In addition, it is quite affordable at a good 700 euros.

Our expectations of the Segway Ninebot E45D were correspondingly high at first. But they were suddenly disappointed. In the test report on the Segway Ninebot E45D, we reveal why we cannot recommend the E45D and which similarly priced e-scooters are much better.

The main difference between the E45D and the E22D and E25D is the additional battery on the handlebars.

Segway Ninebot E45D: Design and Processing

The Segway Ninebot E45D looks unusual. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a thick additional battery on the handlebars. Accordingly, it looks massive. The running board, on the other hand, appears filigree with the small main battery.

The handlebar itself is as tidy and minimalistic as hardly any other e-scooter handlebar. This is also due to the fact that Segway does not have a classic brake handle. Not a single cable can be seen there. There is a lever on the left and one on the right. The one marked in red activates the electric brake, the green one activates the accelerator. The fairly large bell looks inappropriate and fake.

The small display sits in the middle, as an extension of the handlebars so to speak. It shows the battery level, the activated support level and the speed. The button below turns the e-scooter on and off. It also regulates the light and the support level. The display does not show the total kilometers driven. It is also difficult to read in direct sunlight.

The handlebar itself is quite thick with a diameter of almost 6 cm. The stylishly integrated front light is located in the upper area.

The almost 35 cm long additional battery hangs relatively in the middle. It is permanently attached and cannot be removed for charging. That’s a shame, here Segway missed an opportunity to positively set itself apart from most other e-scooters with built-in batteries.

The folding mechanism is simple and good. We particularly like the fact that the safety lever can be completely flipped over with your foot. No manual work is necessary here. The handlebar folds down along with the front wheel. Its dimensions can be reduced from 117 x 116 x 42 cm to 120 x 36 x 42 cm. A hook snaps onto the rear fender for transport. The hand grips cannot be equipped. At 16.4kg, the Segway Ninebot E45D is quite light. Its maximum payload is 100kg.

Because the battery has moved to the handlebars, the 52 x 15 cm rubberized running board looks downright filigree. The ground clearance is also high. The rear light on the rear mudguard also lights up when the front light is switched off. When the engine brake is actuated, it also lights up bright red. However, if the driver switches on the front light, the rear light shines brighter and no longer indicates braking. That seems unfortunate and poorly thought out.

Segway Ninebot E45D: Drive

The center of gravity of the Segway Ninebot E45D is significantly higher than we are used to from classic e-scooters due to the battery on the handlebar. As a result, he steers a little less safely. The foam-filled tires are 9 inches, most other current e-scooters use 10-inch pneumatic tires or more, which leads to a softer ride. The e-scooter has a suspension at the front, but we hardly notice it while driving. The handlebar is stuck. Nothing wobbles or rattles.

The 300-watt front motor accelerates sufficiently quickly. On slippery ground or gravel, however, drivers must be careful that the front wheel does not spin when accelerating. Otherwise there is a risk of falling.

The electric motor brake is ready for braking. This can be dosed pleasantly, but does not take enough hearty action in dangerous situations. Here drivers should also use the rear fender brake. In combination, the electric scooter stops sufficiently quickly. However, for most riders it is much less self-explanatory to step on the rear fender than to pull a brake lever. We assume that the widespread disc brake fell victim to the cutbacks.

Segway Ninebot E45D: Battery 

The battery has a capacity of 368 watt hours. According to Segway, you should be able to travel up to 45 km with one battery charge. However, this value was measured under ideal conditions and is therefore not very realistic.

We assume that a rider weighing around 90 kg with an outside temperature of 20 degrees, maximum support level, a lot of stop & go and mostly asphalt with moderate inclines can cover 20 to 25 km before the empty battery wants to be recharged. The 71 watt power supply takes almost four hours to charge.

Segway Ninebot E45D: Conclusion

The Segway Ninebot E45D has been on the market since the end of 2020. Nonetheless, it is still being sold. Here one can assume that it meets current standards for a good electric scooter. But he does not. It has a bad center of gravity, no disc brakes, a short range and some poorly thought out elements.

With the E45D, we feel transported back to the early days of e-scooters in Germany. This is particularly disappointing, since Segway has what is currently perhaps the best e-scooter on offer with the Segway Ninebot G30D II Max. Although this costs 200 euros more, it is superior to the E45D in all respects. The Xiaomi Mi Scooter Pro 2 is also an excellent alternative. It’s even a little cheaper than the E45D and still better. 

Segway Ninebot E45D: Price and Where To Buy Cheaper?

The Segway Ninebot E45D currently costs a good 500 euros. If you can do without the additional battery on the handlebars, you can get significantly cheaper versions with the E25D and the E22D.

The Eskute Netuno with an electric rear motor looks very elegant and chic with the matt black finish and is also affordable at a price of 1300 euros. The name is an allusion to the words “Netuno” and “no” and the city e-bike as an alternative without exhaust fumes for traffic in the city position. Visually, the e-bike with 28-inch wheels is reminiscent of the cheaper Eleglide T1 Step-Thru. A powerful battery from Samsung provides enough energy. The test reveals how well Eskute’s new city e-bike performs in practice.

Eskute Netuno: Design and Processing

Eskute delivers the Netuno in a large box. The e-bike is partially pre-assembled. The user must assemble the front wheel, the handlebars with the bike computer, the front bike light and mudguard, the pedals and the stand. The removable battery is already attached to the frame. Instructions and the required tools are available.

The assembly effort is limited, experienced cyclists should assemble the e-bike in just under 30 minutes, a beginner should be able to do it in just under an hour. The instructions describe the most important steps, but leave out small details, such as how to mount the stand or the mudguard. In addition, some English-language passages sneak into the Spain part of the manual.

To attach the handlebars, users must first remove a screw and four retaining rings. Then comes the bike computer. There is also the holder for the handlebars. Then you connect the cable with the green marking to the bike computer – no further steps are necessary for the cabling.

Thanks to the quick release, the front wheel is quickly mounted. First remove the locking screws from the fork. The front mudguard and front light are then attached to a screw above the fork. There are two screws on the back of the frame for attaching the stand. The tires are already inflated. However, it is advisable to check the pressure again and, if in doubt, inflate the wheels. The processing of all components of the ebike leaves a solid impression for a device in this price range. This means that there are no gaps or sharp-edged elements, and all components are in place when they are installed correctly. Nothing rattles while driving. The assembly of the front fender is less successful. This is screwed together with the front light, but the drill hole above the fork does not seem to be placed exactly. As a result, the sheet metal is not centered over the front tire. In addition, the mudguard is attached to the side of the fork using two struts.

The wiring is fixed with cable ties so that it doesn’t hang around in an annoying way. A loose wire with a yellow mark is for an optional throttle control that is available as an accessory. It is not included in the scope of delivery. However, according to the road traffic regulations in Spain, the use is not permitted anyway.

According to the manufacturer, the bike weighs almost 25 kg without the battery. With battery it is 3 kg more. The frame is designed for people up to 125 kg. According to Eskute, the luggage rack has a carrying capacity of 25 kg. A spring clip helps attach items to it.

Eskute Netuno: Handlebar & Light

The straight handlebar offers the usual ample width, as you know it from a city bike. On the right is the circuit for the 7-speed gearbox, on the left is a classic bicycle bell. In the middle is the display with the LED display. This is very tidy and is limited to the essentials: the speed, the selected support level and the charge level of the battery. One looks in vain for information about the kilometers traveled – that’s a pity. Although Eskute offers an app, it does not currently work with the Netuno.

There is also a USB-C port at the bottom end so that you can charge your cell phone from the bike’s battery. The left button serves as a power button and for switching on the front and rear lights, the right mode button is used to select one of five support levels for the electric motor. When braking, the tail light flashes.

That would be a nice feature, but it’s not allowed in Spain. Flashing lights attached to vehicles are reserved for so-called sovereign vehicles, i.e. police, ambulances, garbage disposal and the like.

Eskute Netuno: Ergonomics

The stem with the handlebar itself is not adjustable in height. A quick release is used to adjust the saddle. This allows for quick adjustments, but increases the risk of thieves clawing at the saddle. Thanks to the low entry of the frame in the style of a Spaine bike, it is still easy and comfortable to saddle up, which also benefits rock wearers and older people. The saddle could be softer. For longer distances, this could become too uncomfortable in the long run.

Eskute recommends a height between 1.60 and 2 meters for the Netuno. The Eskute Netuno fits perfectly for a person who is 1.85 meters tall. Even with a body height of 1.70 meters, we got along well with the bike. With smaller people under 1.60 meters, it can happen that the ground can no longer be reached with their feet.

Eskute Netuno: Drive

The Zoom suspension fork noticeably softens bumps from curbs. However, the strength of the suspension cannot be adjusted and is almost too soft for our taste. The city bike is not designed for difficult terrain anyway. The brakes grip properly without decelerating the two-wheeler too abruptly. Here you should set them well in advance so that they do not grind. Disc brakes with a diameter of 160 mm are used at the front and rear. As already mentioned, the front fender is not quite centered. However, it fits in the back. When driving through puddles, the mudguards still provide sufficient protection against water splashes.

A seven-speed derailleur from Shimano is used as the gearbox. This usually switches reliably, at the beginning there were occasional imprecise switching processes. After running several kilometers, however, everything went smoothly.

Compared to a mountain bike, these are few gears, but they are sufficient for use in the city and on level paths. However, the translation is not optimized for higher speeds beyond 25 km/h. The steering is also a little too wobbly for our taste.

Eskute Netuno: Battery

The electric, brushless rear motor from Bafang with a nominal output of 250 watts provides additional thrust. The maximum torque is 32 Nm. This provides good propulsion, but the motor of the Eleglide T1 Step-Thru offers more torque with 50 Nm.

A total of five different support levels are available. At levels 1 to 3, however, you don’t notice that much of the electrical support. We mainly chose level 4 and 5. Only at 8 to 9 km/h do you clearly feel the additional boost. The electrical support only switches on up to a maximum of 25 km/h. There is also an optional pushing aid. To do this, you hold down the mode button, and when you push, the electric motor supports you at a speed of 6 km/h.

The entire electrical system is protected against water and dust according to IP65. The levels can only be adjusted via the bike computer, so the rider has to take one hand off the handlebars, which is not ideal for riding safety.

The lithium-ion battery comes from Samsung and has a generous capacity of 522 Wh at 36 volts. This makes it one of the strongest batteries that we have tested on an e-bike so far. It can also be removed with a key. This is handy for charging at home without having to take the bike into the apartment every time. The charger is part of the scope of delivery. A charging process takes about five hours.

Eskute states a maximum range of up to 100 km. We think that’s exaggerated. How long the battery lasts ultimately depends on many factors, such as the ambient temperature, the incline of the route, the level of support selected and the weight of the rider. For a rider weighing 85 kg, we think about 60 km is more realistic. This is still a very good value.

Eskute Netuno: Conclusion

As an electrified two-wheeler for the city, the Eskute Netuno convinces with a chic and elegant look and decent workmanship at a fair price. The battery offers a lavish capacity. The electric motor could do with a bit more torque though. In the long run, the saddle is too uncomfortable. We also miss the display for kilometers covered on the bike computer.

A significantly cheaper and even better alternative for cycling through the city is the Eleglide T1 Step-Thru. If you would rather have an electric folding bike, you should take a closer look at the Fiido D2S for an unbeatable 500 euros.

Unboxing

That those of you are reluctant to buy a bike by mail order, moreover a FAT bike for fear that it will be damaged during transport, be reassured.

I have never seen a product so well protected in my entire career. The ENGWE bike is packed with protections on each of the key organs, with foam plates and cardboard. The assembly is then injected with foam to create a cocoon for transport.

There are several possible colors and on my side it is a white ENGWE EP62 PRO that I received.

It takes a little time to remove all the protections but in the end, it is almost the only effort you will have to make because it is 95% assembled. Only the pedals are not mounted in such a way as to limit the risks.

I appreciated finding the mudguards already fitted, which was not the case with my FAT BIKE ADO Z20C. Moreover, these accessories are not generic but very special for this bike. They hold well and are not likely to rub on the wheel.

The FAT BIKE ENGWE EP-2 PRO comes with two documentations, one of which explains the operation of the electric meter / on-board computer. Very good point.

The supplied EC mains charger looks very serious like the rest.

Design

The finish of the ENGWE EP-2 PRO is above that of my previous FAT BIKE ADO. Nothing beats a series of photographs so you can judge for yourself.

The welds are clean, the cables are perfectly tidy. Coming out of the box, the bike is already well adjusted in terms of gears/brakes.

The design is good with stick rims which reassure on the solidity. The brakes are mechanical disc with cables.

The wheels are 20 inches wide by 4 inches.

A very stable crutch is already assembled.

The forks of the ENGWE EP-2 PRO are telescopic with a system that appears quite ordinary.

The derailleur system is Shimano type with 7 speeds.

The central counter has a large screen. It is controlled via a module on the left side. This remote has 5 buttons. It controls the lighting in addition to the meter.

The bell is mechanical.

Handlebar grips are non-slip and sweat resistant.

What many of you will appreciate about the ENGWE EP-2 PRO is the presence of a luggage rack. The latter carries the rear lighting which is wired to the front one and can be controlled directly via the handlebar control. Many e-bikes only offer a reflector or battery-powered rear light.

Even better, this light turns on automatically when it gets dark. This function is only present on the ENGWE EP-2 PRO series.

The advantage of these FAT BIKE Pliant bikes is that they can be used with a very large size range. The saddle and handlebars adjust so that people between 1.55 and 1.98 can use it.

The saddle is in the low position at 83 cm and in the high position at 114 cm. The handlebar is adjustable between 116 and 134 cm.

This type of bike is extremely solid and does not fear anything (150 kg of possible load).

The saddle is of good quality and quite comfortable.

Battery

The FAT BIKE ENGWE EP-2 PRO mountain bike recharges directly without the need to remove the battery knowing that the battery is removable and can also be charged off the bike.

It is a 48V 12.8Ah 18650 battery with Samsung components. It looks like the one on my Samebike bike. I have seen this type of battery sold as a spare part via Aliexpress, which is reassuring about the repairability of this FAT BIKE.

That of my other FAT BIKE Z20C is a 36V, 10.4 Mah model.

This type of battery is locked by a key which prevents it from being removed from the frame but also from starting the bike in its absence. This placement is not optimal because there are cables that prevent easy access. The problem is common to other e-bikes.

Engwe provided two keys with its ENGWE EP-2 PRO bike.

Allow 5 hours for a full charge.

The FAT BIKE ENGWE EP-2 PRO MTB in my test is powered by a 750Watt motor. This is much more than the permitted standard of 250W and therefore cannot be used on public roads. The ENGWE EP-2 exists in a “non-pro” version with the difference of offering a less powerful motor. I’m not convinced that the other versions are actually worse for most of us.

By default it is not limited in speed so in theory can exceed 40 km/h.

The extra power of the engine explains its ease of movement, including the heaviest among us. It swallows the paths including the steepest.

The 750W motor can propel the bike between 42 and 45 km/h.

The assistance offers 5 levels which are supposed to multiply your effort:

  • 1 – 25% more of your effort
  • 2 – 50%
  • 3 – 100%
  • 4 – 150%
  • 5 – 200%

In practice, from the first level, pedal assistance is present. The right handle also controls the acceleration if you need to pass a difficult place or if you are lazy to pedal.

If you happen to be on a tarmac crossing, you will distinctly hear the rolling noise of the tires on the road. It is further amplified by the mudguards.

I am lucky to have dirt roads, fields and forests near my home. As you will be able to read in almost all electric FAT BIKE tests, it is a huge pleasure to be able to go everywhere without any problems. The 4 inch tires stay glued to the ground. Crossing a dirt field is possible where my Samebike L026 electric mountain bike remains miserably planted from the start of the crossing. It remains a sporting activity with effort most of the time because you have to accompany it while pedaling.

An electronic counter tracks the main indicators.

The manufacturer indicates 45-55 km (electric mode) and 90-110 km (assistant mode) which is consistent with what I measured.

The range depends heavily on your weight, your pedaling style, the roads and even the temperature.

The FAT BIKE ENGWE EP-2 PRO electric mountain bike is a higher quality product than my ADO Z20C while it remains at the best prices on the market (see the good plan at the bottom of the test).

We have six gears, Shimano gears, and a 250-watt engine here to power us in addition to the ZB20 Max. I’ll let you know what I can get out of it in terms of range. The handlebar will fold down as well, and I’ll seat it. The bike’s frame appears to be of excellent quality, with solid-looking welds, and it won’t split in half as the feeder X did.

HIMO ZB20 Max: Build and design

In order to fold the bike in half and reach the battery, you must first push a little clip forward. Once that is done, you must simply pull on that to release it. This is how the bike appears when it is folded, with the handlebars and seat post both down.

With it unfolded, you can then insert the key and slot out the battery. For example, you can fit it under a stairwell or in the trunk of a big car because it weighs 28 kilograms and is heavy and still relatively large compared to other foldable. The pedals on this e-bike are made of hard plastic, so you don’t want to be lifting it up any stairs and the pedals are collapsible. 

We have a plastic chain guard here, and the chain here is a Best Chain brand that I had never heard of before. The shock here is generic; it is not a brand shock, so it is not a rock shock or a fox shock; it is lockable. I have a reflector here and a bright led headlight. Unfortunately, our front hub here does not have a quick release, so you’ll need to carry tools around.

The four-inch-wide fat tires they chose are CSTBFT, and I do see a lot of  CSTBFT brand tires on these Chinese e-bikes if you want to make a repair on the spot, but I do advise using in these huge tires some anti-puncture solution just in case. The bike does have a solid kickstand, but you won’t hear it rattling when I put it on the road since it tends to move about. The battery is right here, of course.

 The charging outlet is located here, and you can charge the 10 amp-hour battery either within the bike or outside of it. The seat is quite nice and has enough cushion in it. I have no problems, and the height adjustment has a quick release. At least the seat post can be adjusted for height if you pull it out completely, inspect the end of it, and then unscrew it.

You’ll discover that there is a built-in pump, which is quite clever of them to include, so you can use that pump to top up those tires if you need to and that the bike has a unique tail light with reflectors and LEDs at the top that is bright and great for safety, as well as reflectors in the spokes of each wheel. The bike does have lock grips, and because they won’t move, here is the controller I previously reviewed for both the HIMO controller and the Z20.

We have a trip meter odometer and then you have your pedal assist levels, so eco, mid, and high are what I usually use to get the most range out of it. Down here, there are two buttons to turn it on, and there is also a mode button. If you keep holding the plus button up here, the front headlight will turn on but not the rear.

First, because it runs on batteries. I do have an issue with this controller since even after tightening it to the greatest degree, it is still loose. Additionally, the Shimano gear selector is a little out of proportion to the handlebar diameter.

The handlebars on this can fold down as well, collapsing to one side of the bike like so. The latch on this is very strong and it clips in securely there, so it’s not going anywhere. Unfortunately, the handlebar’s height cannot be adjusted. Now, let’s talk about how I like to ride this powerful e-bike. The crank here uses a speed sensor rather than a torque sensor; torque sensors are found on other types of e-bikes.

It’s kind of good that it doesn’t have an accelerator because normally bikes in this price range and group don’t use torque sensors, but some of them do, and I really wish I had. I’ve got it in high mode, and when I press the pedal, it immediately detects that I’m pedaling and gives me that boost. You can also notice it right away on high because it gives you quite a bit of power.

HIMO ZB20 Max: Road tests

It’s just a little bit, but the Eco isn’t too bad, especially for cruising along on the flats. This is quite good and comfortable, so why am I pointing at my legs here? Well, I’m just trying to show you that the handlebars are there’s a bit of room here and I’m in quite an upright position, so it is comfortable and the seat caters to pretty much all rider heights, which is good now because I have a tiny little climb up here.

I think the battery is what’s making this noise inside the frame right now, and while it is annoying, I could probably fix it by putting a couple of tiny rubber shims on the battery as I slide it in to make sure it doesn’t feel loose or rattle, but really I shouldn’t have to do that. I hope they fix it. Such as the one I’m currently on, which isn’t particularly steep and is going well with hardly any effort on my part.

This is in the high mode now; if I switch to the mid mode right away, it almost seems like I drag on the motor and everything, but it’s still simple enough; However, I have to put in some effort now, and I can feel that. Therefore, let’s move over to where my steep climb test is; this is about 25 to 30 degrees, and I’m in the sixth gear; therefore, I’m going to lower down the gears a bit.

I reviewed it but look at this not a problem, plenty of climbing power and I’m in the fourth gear. If I give it a little more it’s helping the motor and that’s in the high setting so if I put it on to the mid-mid still seems to be okay, and Eco really isn’t that too not that different actually. So it climbs really well and I could probably even go up a few gears with it.

For my braking test, we’ve got mechanical disc brakes at 160 millimeters, so roughly 30 kilometers. Not bad braking performance. Now for the price of this bike, they should have gone with hydraulic. I think if anything’s above a thousand euros, a thousand US dollars.

The discs themselves, the pads on these brakes, bite into the discs fairly well, a lot better than some other brands I’ve recently reviewed, so these aren’t horrible brakes that come with the ZB20 Max but if I were to change anything it would be those brakes Another thing to note as I cruise around here is that my feet and shoes occasionally contact the frame since the frame is particularly broad to accommodate those four-inch wide tires. This was not a problem with the Z20 from HIMO.

This is the end of the so-called Las Rodis Mediterranean Coast of Spain, and the ride so far with this bike is good excellent climbing performance and good top speed I can easily ride over 30 kilometers per hour, unlike that bike which only has the two-inch wide tires. However, this one it occasionally happens so you need to adapt your riding style so you don’t end up striking your feet against the frame.

It’s very bumpy right now, but the ZB20 Max is handling it well thanks to the fat wheels and the front shock, which are helping to absorb some of these bumps. However, listen to that battery; it’s rattling away, which is very annoying. You need to do something about that battery; you can’t put up with that all the time. Our range HIMO states that the ZV20 can handle really rough roads.

HIMO ZB20 Max: Range I can get

But naturally, those are perfect circumstances. With no headwind and using one of the eco settings, of course, I was riding primarily on the mid or high setting and losing about 11 kilometers per battery bar there on the gauge, so with my 81 kilograms and some small climbs, I’m looking at about 50 kilometers of range. However, on the street when I was riding then, I managed to reach top speeds of about 28 to 29, and occasionally 30 kilometers per hour. 

There where it’s not even using the motor, so the mileage will vary, but worst case I do believe you are looking around that 40 kilometers and then best case maybe 60 but definitely not the 80 that they claim you can get out of it no so what is the good about this bike well it’s ce certified the quality of it is very good so it’s better than 80 bikes that i’ve reviewed fee do and a few of those other brands, uh angry is another one it’s better than.

Final words with Pros and Cons

The color khaki is gorgeous. It’s a terrific ending. It folds in half, which is excellent. It has a strong motor, making it suitable for hills, and the brakes are quite good despite being mechanical disc brakes that bite through those pads, so I can’t really complain about the performance. The front shock may be shut out now for the disadvantages, which are small flaws, including noise and rattling.

That was a chain slapping sound back then, but now and again I hear the battery inside or the front shock making that rattling sound that you presumably heard in my clip taken with the GoPro. The other is that the pedal gets quite close to the frame here, and I occasionally find myself hitting the frame with my feet because the frame is much wider because it needs to accommodate those wider tires, which requires you to modify your riding style by occasionally moving your feet a little. The other is also very minor.

Finally, what about our pricing? I’ve tightened it up as much as I could, but there is still some movement in there, so get ready for it. It costs 1600 euros, so it is an expensive bike with better quality than the other models I have reviewed, but it is a bit pricey for what it is. Hopefully, they can work on that price HIMO and bring it down a little bit.

We finally got our hands on a real, high-performance scooter in the form of the Eleglide D1 Master. The “little one” is capable of 2 x 500W power, its chassis is brutal, it is also suitable for off-roading due to the cam tires, and the leisurely range of 45-50 km leaves behind everything that we have tried so far. 

This is no longer a toy category, solid irons are responsible for staying on the road and for your safety. The price is not reminiscent of entry-level machines, in fact, compared to them, the Eleglide Eleglide D1 Master is a real leap forward. They are asking $550 from a Polish warehouse at Alibaba, so you don’t have to expect additional costs and the package will arrive at your door within a few days.

We have already tested the Eleglide product, in the form of the M1 electric bicycle, and the engineers put a particularly high-quality vehicle on the table. So I didn’t expect anything else from the Eleglide D1 Master either, but before we dive into the deep water, it’s worth knowing that there is a plain Eleglide D1, which only has 1 motor and 500W, but it also has a seat. 

However, we were lucky with the rougher Eleglide D1 Master, which is a respectable “goods” not only in size but also in weight, I could hardly bring its box up the stairs, since the scooter itself is 28.5kg, and with its parts, it is close to 30.

Unboxing

I opened the packaging and highlighted the allen keys, the charger, and the description. You should read the latter since you have to mount the handlebars of the scooter on the stem. It is essential that you tighten the two retaining screws on the steering clamp with muscle because it is not funny when it turns while driving – based on events that have happened.

You also have to inflate the 10-inch tires, luckily it has a motor valve, so it will work with practically any pump. By default, the battery is at medium voltage, so you have to charge it to the maximum, which will take quite a few hours, since its capacity is brutal, 1056 watt hours.

Design and Appearance

The appearance also shows that this is not a downtown toy, massive irons everywhere, brutally wide steps, 10-inch all-terrain tires, front and rear disc brakes. This scooter was designed for beating, this is also reflected in the spring struts, you can actually jump on it, even then the technique does not change. Its maximum load capacity is 120kg, but I believe that it can carry a person of this weight. It’s funny because they wrote the same for the Kugoo Kirin S1 Pro, but it would be an insult to the Eleglide D1 Master if I compared the two products. The handlebar height is adjustable, so we can say that they thought not only of heavier individuals, but also of taller ones. The manufacturer also mentions it in the press material and we tried it both its shock absorbers and cam tires make it fully suitable for off-road use.

There are quite a few controls on the steering wheel. On the left side, there is the button for the electric horn, which, according to my experience, is not loud enough and has a shrill sound. The lights – there are 6 in total, 1 each at the front and back, and four on the stage – can also be switched on on the left side. By the way, the front light has a surprisingly good light. There is also a three-position switch for the turn signal – it is located on the edges of the turn signal when clicked , red lights flash orange when idling. Last but not least, the drive switch is located here – the most exciting button on the entire scooter.

In the case of the Eleglide D1 Master, there is a 500W motor at the front and at the back.

On the right side , you can see two displays, the lower one shows the voltage – a maximum of 54.6V – and, unfortunately, it’s pretty bad to see in sunlight, while the upper one plays the role of the on-board computer. The color panel shows the usual data – charge, speed, gear, etc. – displays , although it should be added that the user manual does not mention a single word about the 5-6 different functions that you can switch between with the On/Off button, so some of them remain a mystery to this day. The little piece of plastic sticking out next to the display is the “throttle lever”, which can be pulled with the index or middle finger. Fortunately, the angle of the brake levers can be freely adjusted – just like on a bicycle – so you can create enough space to brake with your finger held on it.

There is cruise control, but it was turned off at the factory for some reason, and you can only turn it on in the service menu, which is not made public, so I don’t really know where to put it. Fortunately, it is not particularly tiring to pull the lever even in the long run – the training of my motorcycle gloves, for example, is such that my fingers are involuntarily bent, so it is almost natural to use the lever.

Driving

The gas is a little difficult to apply at the start, it pulls a little, but not dangerously, but then it pulls nicely and linearly, and after you get used to it, this won’t be a problem either – it’s a bit like when the brakes bite in a foreign car, you can get used to it too. The brightness of the secondary display is perfect, even in the sun it was no problem to read the data. The three stages are practically just a speed limiter: they limit the top speed to 20/35/55 km/h . What I didn’t like, however, was the location of the lock key and ignition switch training. This is probably the worst part of the scooter as the plastic is junk and the key will poke around the right swingarms if dropped, although it should be added that the whole thing will break sooner than cause any real damage.

There is a metal grid above the rear wheel of the Master, which has a handle at the end, this makes it much easier to lift and carry the scooter, but a storage box can also be attached here after some DIY.

Eleglide D1 Master – Our club

The easiest way to set up the scooter from its folded state is to put your weight on the rear metal support with one foot and firmly push the steering wheel forward with both hands. The safety pins will click loudly if you did it right. There are rough ups and downs, a stepped surface that can be used as a “rocker bench” , a forest, a dirt road strewn with stones and debris and the traffic is relatively small.

It is also not incidental that if a vehicle comes, you can stand to the side on the bike path, so it is relatively safe to test, and last but not least, I have full motorcycle gear with protectors so that I dare to play with it – that’s why I tested it instead of Comrade Don Kartács.

Nevertheless, this is not the uncontrollable, unbridled force that wants to wrest the steering wheel from your hands and attacks your life every millisecond, but a controllable, but large milk power, which not only does not scare you, but can actually create addiction. In 500W mode, however, it is a bit slim, the Inmotion V5Fs beat it on the climb, as they are a bit more powerful (550W) and have much less weight.

On the one hand, it dampens very well and springs nicely, and on the other hand, it completely absorbs the bounces caused by uneven terrain, and it is actually the best at this. The Csabis were just messing around with the unicycles, as I passed them with the Eleglide  D1 Master, the difference on the terrain was extreme. The fast off-roading shown in the video was only my first few kilometers. Now imagine what this scooter can do with an experienced user. It was quite a shocking experience anyway, it’s simply difficult to drive normally with him, it wants to be petted and doesn’t punish him for it.

The top speed of 55 km/h is amazingly liberating and exciting. With childlike joy, I pull on its handle, go off the designated road, and wade through the grass, police officers, and benches. Yes, with this scooter you can go over any police station at a speed of 55 km/h, even the very short, very steep ones. I’m not saying that it’s all a pleasant feeling or that the first shock absorber doesn’t hit, the big word here is that it can do it without any problems. Of course, speed is not everything, you also have to be able to stop. Again, there is no reason to complain, the two-disc brakes slow down brutally. With the front brake properly engaged, it is strongly recommended to load it backward with a sag, to avoid a headstand. And as a result of the high speed and the cruel braking effect, you can do well with it, so the fun part is also provided by D1 Master.

As for the range, based on the factory data, the 22-ampere-hour battery can be used for up to 80 km, according to the specification, with a 70 kg person, in no wind, at 20°C, at a speed limit of 20 km/h, and at 500W. It’s true, the Eleglide bike also knew much more than the factory promised, so we gave the Eleglide D1 Master the chance to prove it as well. I took it to Lake Velence so that I could cruise with it on flat terrain on the bike path. One day, I rode with At almost no wind, mostly at 1000W, at the highest possible pace, instead of coasting, I braked hard in many places, and there were even uphills. The result is very pleasant: I got around (29 km) and according to the display, there were still 2 stripes out of 5. The second strip was just a visual element in my opinion, so I guess it can travel approximately 35 km on natural gas, which is pretty damn good for city traffic. The next day, I tested it in a huge wind, limited to 500W and 35km/h. So I managed to cover around 50 km, but on the way back I trudged 15 km, it just wouldn’t turn off. Either way: 50 km in a stormy headwind is a very good result.

The former is slower, has a shorter range, and is also weaker. I think the problem is that the 500 W motor power is simply not enough if you don’t live in the middle of the Great Plains. In addition, a machine with a load capacity of up to 120 kg is likely to be used by larger people , so stay with the Eleglide D1 Master, even if it is more expensive. Its direct competitor is the Kugoo G2 Pro, which costs about the same, but has a shorter range and is weaker, and the Bezoir S2, which is more expensive but more powerful. 

Brakes and Tires

The brakes and tires were factory (it’s true, they were already worn, but the grooves were still visible), and seriously, it looked very good. Except for the performer’s side, which, according to its, was quite battered by quite a few and sometimes quite serious falls. As a result of a major accident, something broke recently around the steering column and the front wheel, it said that it was welded for $550, and since then everything is perfect again. If I don’t hear these from its mouth, I won’t believe it.

I would like to mention one more thing, but only briefly, because it is unnecessary to drag on the topic: based on its factory performance, this scooter should already have a license plate number, even for a moped.

Conclusions

I’ll start with the negatives because there are very few of them. One is its weight, 28.5 kilograms is very difficult to move in buildings without an elevator, this “sport” is for the garage on the ground floor. 

The other is the price, they ask $550 for it. On the other hand, it is light years ahead of the average “cheap” city scooters, and it was put together in such a way that I believe that in 2 years there won’t be a handful of screws. It accelerates brutally, climbs most of the hills, has a really long range, you can stand on it comfortably with parallel legs, the lights are good, and the braking effect is excellent, but what is really brilliant about it is its chassis. 

It perfectly dampens road faults, goes off-road without any problems, and is stable even at a top speed of 55 km/h. It’s true that it’s not a child’s toy, it’s meant for adults, but it’s a really grateful monster, a real addictive experience to go with it, so I highly recommend it.

$550 from Alibaba’s Polish warehouse and so that’s what the vehicle is really worth. With such things, you plan for the long term, and in addition to the current gas prices, it offers a cheaper alternative for commuting in the city, but due to its range, it is also perfect for scootering between smaller settlements, and if a dirt road gets in the way or you just want to beat a good one, it won’t come either confused.
